Bodrum is a charming and fascinating little port, 270 km. south of Izmir, on the Aegean coast of Turkey. The inhabitants of Bodrum are around 30.000 and earn their living by fishing, boat-building, agriculture, weaving (the village Mumcular is famous for its carpets, kilims and other weavings) and tourism, which has become the most important industry in the last few years. In recent times Bodrum has become not only a tourist center but also a visiting place for famous Turkish and foreign artists and also an art center, which is a source of inspiration.The heart of the town is around the harbor, where shops, bars and restaurants jostle together in the narrow streets under the shadow of the St. Peter Castle The main artery is Cumhurriyet Caddesi (Republic Street), much better known as bar street. This street is a pedestrianized showcase of what the town h as to offer. Skilled artisans can make you a pair of snugly fitting leather sandals in the traditional Aegean style, while small boutiques offer stylish creations inspired by local designs and fabrics.Shopping tips: mainstream Turkish Fashions are well represented to, with clothes designed for hot summer living . The souvenir shops sell attractive onyx, copper and brass ware, along with toy camels, and Gold harem slippers. Cafes and restaurants offer a cosmopolitan choice.To accompany your meal, try the light aniseed flavored national drink Raki or locally produced wine. After sundown, Bodrum lights up with flashing neon and laser shows to pulsating throb of the latest dance music. It's party time all over the town.

"Who is Mevlana?"
Come, come again, whoever you are, come! Heathen, fire worshipper or idolatrous, come! Come even if you broke your penitence a hundred times, Ours is the portal of hope, come as you are." Mevlana who is also known as Rumi, was a philosopher and mystic of Islam, but not a Muslim of the orthodox type. His doctrine advocates unlimited tolerance, positive reasoning, goodness, charity and awareness through love. To him and to his disciples all religions are more or less truth. Looking with the same eye on Muslim, Jew and Christian alike, his peaceful and tolerant teaching has appealed to men of all sects and creeds. Mevlana was born on 30 September 1207 in Balkh in present day Afghanistan. He died on 17 December 1273 in Konya in present day Turkey. He was laid to rest beside his father and over his remains a splendid shrine was erected. The 13th century Mevlana Mausoleum with its mosque, dance hall, dervish living quarters, school and tombs of some leaders of the Mevlevi Order continues to this day to draw pilgrims from all parts of the Muslim and non-Muslim world.Whirling Dervishes The "dance" of the Whirling Dervishes is called Sema. Sema is a part of the inspiration of Mevlana as well as part of the Turkish custom, history, beliefs and culture. Sema represents a mystical journey of man?s spiritual ascent through mind and love to "Perfect." Turning towards the truth, his growth through love, desert his ego, find the truth and arrive to the "Perfect," then he return from this spiritual journey as a man who reached maturity and a greater perfection, so as to love and to be of service to the whole of creation, to all creatures without discrimination of believes, races, es and nations.

Evliya Çelebi, Seyahatnamesi'nde (Hicri 1058 Miladi 1638) Beypazarı'ndan şöyle bahseder:
" İlk kurucusunu bilmiyorum. Fakat ilk fatihi Kütahya beylerinden Germiyanoğlu Yakup Şah'ın veziri Dinar Hezar'dır. Onun için şehre "Germiyan Hezar" da derler.
Haftada bir gün güzel süslü bir pazar kurulup, bütün kıymetli eşyalar bulunur. Halkının uğraşları tiftik keçisi olduğundan, pazarında sof çok satılır. Müşterisi vardır. Senede bin kantar sof ipliği satılır. Sofu olmaz fakat güzel mümeyyizi olur. Pazarına her hafta etraf köylerinden 10 bin insan toplanır.
Şehir Anadolu toprağından Engürü sancağı hududunda olup, İstanbul'da kim Şeyhülislam olursa ona has olur. Padişah hasından ayrılmadır. Müftü tarafından hakimi subaşısıdır. 150 akçelik kazadır. Senelik kadısına yedi kese gelir getirir. Damga emini, Sipahi Kethüda yeri ve Yeniçeri Serdarı vardır. Fakat kale ağası ve neferi yoktur. Kalesi bir dere içinde olup, iki tarafı balık sırtı gibi kaya üzerindedir. Genişliğini bilmiyorum.
Aşağıda şehir iki geniş dere içinde olup 20 mahalle 41 mihraptır. Fakat öyle mükellef camileri yoktur. Çarşı içinde cami güzeldir (Paşa Camii). Hepsi 3060 tane iki katlı evleri vardır. Duvarları kerpiçtendir. Yüzeyleri tahta ile kaplıdır. Medrese Darulhadis ve Darulkurrası vardır. Çünkü talebe bilginleri çoktur. Medreseleri kargir değildir. 70 adet çocuk mektebi vardır. Çocukları gayet temiz ve olgun olup, 700' ün üzerinde hafızı vardır.
Bir Şeyhülislamı var ki; bütün bilginler onunla ilmi tartışmaya girmekten acizdirler. Nakibüleşrafı fadıl değil fakat, gayet cömert bir kimsedir.
Halkının çoğu bilginlerdir. Hepsi renk renk sof giyerler. Türk şehri olduğundan halkı Oğuz taifesidir. Yani Türk kavmi demenin güzel bir ifadesidir. Yedi tane hanı vardır. Çarşı içindeki güzel bir han yanmıştır. Hamamları, 600 dükkanı vardır. Çarşıda kasaplar içinden akan dere kenarında hafta pazarı olur. Dere burada şehrin aşağı tarafından akarak bir nehir vasıtası ile Sakarya'ya dökülür. Şehir yüksek yerde olduğundan caddeleri kumsalca ve kaldırımsızdır. Halkı garipsever ve cömert kişilerdir. Kadınları gayet edepli ve akıllı olurlar.
Bağ ve bahçesi çoktur. Bostanlarından bir çeşit kavun olur ki lezzetinden adamın damağı yarılır. Misk ve hamamber gibi kokusu vardır. Şehir halkının çoğu bu kavundan zerde pişirir. İçine tarçın ve karanfil korlar. Muaviye'nin icat ettiği zerdeden tatlı bir zerde olur. Bir çeşit yeşil armudu olup, yuvarlak olduğu gibi dördü beşi de bir okka gelir. Gayet hoş ve suludur. İstanbul'a nice bin kutu armudu pamuklar içinde hediye gider. Bu armudun eşini acem diyarından başka yerde görmedim. Bir çeşit siyah arpası olur ki, gayet yağlıdır. Ata çok vermekten çekinilmelidir. Sahrasında pirinci olur ki, gayet pişkindir. Velhasıl etrafı geniş, eşyası ucuz ünlü bir şehirdir. Şeyh İvaz dede adında bir de türbesi vardır."
