Şanlıurfa (Urfa - Riha )
Şanlıurfa often known Urfa or in Kurdish: Riha, is a city in south-eastern Turkey, and the capital of Şanlıurfa Province. Urfa is situated on a plain about 80km east of the Euphrates River. A large part of the population of Urfa is Kurdish, with a sizeable minority of Arabs. 'Şanlı' means great, glorious, dignified in Turkish and Urfa was officially re-named Şanlıurfa (Urfa the Glorious) by the Turkish Grand National Assembly in 1984, in recognition of the local resistance in the Turkish War of Independence. The history of Şanlıurfa is recorded from the 4th century BC, but may date back to the 8th century BC. It was one of several cities in the Euphrates-Tigris basin, the cradle of the Mesopotamian civilization. According to Turkish Muslim traditions Urfa is the biblical city of Ur, due to its proximity to the biblical village of Harran. Urfa is also known as the birthplace of Abraham, commemorated by a mosque in the city and the birthplace of Job.
Among the tourist attractions shown in this video are:
- Ulu camii
- the Pool of Sacred Fish (Balıklıgöl) where Abraham was thrown into the fire by Nimrod.
- the mosque of Halil-ur-Rahman built in 1211
- Rizvaniye Mosque - an Ottoman mosque adjoining the Balıklıgöl complex.

Urfa türküsü - Hannah Berger / Dilber - Turkish folk music
This famous urfan folk song, or more precisely a part of it was orchestrated by Hannah Berger and her band, Dilber in 2008 in Budapest. One of the goals of the band Dilber is the introduction of Turkish folk music and culture to Hungary.
Tomnoise: Keyboard
Princz G.Gergő: utómunka
Külön köszönet Maldorornak /Varga Tibornak/ e film készÃtÅ‘jének.

Részlet a dalból:
Urfa dağlarında gezer bir ceylan aman aman
Yavrusunu kaybetmiş, ağlıyor yaman
Gezme ceylan bu daglarda seni avlarlar
Anaydan, babaydan, yardan ayrı koyarlar.
Urfa hegyeiben sétál egy gazella /ajj.../
ElveszÃtette kicsinyét, keservesen sÃr
Ne menj gazella a hegyekbe, mert téged a vadászok
Anyádtól, apádtól, kicsinyedtÅ‘l elszakÃtanak.
The Dilber Orchestra was established in 2006 in Budapest. Its musicians have been playing and researching the folk music of Southern Slav nationalities living in Hungary and that of other Balkan nations to present it to audiences in Hungary and abroad.
The image of the orchestra has been inspired by the singer who comes from the folk music world of Asia Minor, mostly the Turkish-speaking territories.
'Dilber' means a beauteous, wonderful woman, a lover - from Kurdistan through Turkey and the Bosporus as far as the river Drava. That imaginary woman character appears through the archaic folk music of various nationalities as adapted by the Dilber orchestra.
Members:
Hannah Berger: vocal, zils
Wertetics Szlobodan: accordion
Zoltán Balogh: guitar
Zoltán Szabó: bagpipes, turkish clarinet, flutes, ocarina, bassprime tambourine
Géza Orczi: darabuka, tapan /davul/, saz, kaval
Zoltán Süveges: drums
Csaba Szegedi: darabuka, tapan /davul/
Gergő G. Princz: double bass
A Dilber együttes 2006-ban alakult Budapesten. Zenészei sok éves, -évtizedes népzenei múltra tekinthetnek vissza, a magyarországi délszláv nemzetiségek és a Balkán-félszigeten élő népek zenéjét kutatva és bemutatva a hazai és a külföldi közönség számára.
A zenekar arculatát nagyban meghatározó énekesnő kis-ázsiai, főként török nyelvi területű népzenei világból érkezett.
A Dilber szó jelentése Kurdisztántól Törökországon át, a Boszporusztól a Dráváig: szépséges, gyönyörű nő, szerető. E képzeletbeli nő vonásait mutatja be különböző népek archaikus és feldolgozott népzenéjén keresztül az együttes.
Keljünk közösen útra a hangszerekkel és énekhanggal megfestett világba, ahol zenész és hallgató együtt vándorol tájról-tájra.
