11 Dead As Car Bombs Hit Algerian Military Base
(CNN) -- Two car bombings in eastern Algeria killed at least 11 people Wednesday -- a day after a blast near a military school in a neighboring region claimed 43 lives.
A blast in the town of Les Issers, in the Boumerdes region of Algeria, killed 43 people Tuesday.
The explosions on Wednesday targeted a military barracks and a hotel in the city of Bouira.
The interior ministry labeled the blasts a "terrorist attack," and said 31 people were wounded.
Bouira, located 58 miles (93 km) southeast of Algiers, is a market center for olives and cereal cultivated in areas surrounding it.
The first car bomb went off about 6 a.m. outside the military facility, wounding four soldiers and damaging cars and a building.
Fifteen minutes later, a second bomb exploded in front of a hotel, claiming 11 lives, the press service said.
A blast near a military school in Algeria on Tuesday killed 43 people and wounded another 38, the interior ministry said.
Algerian officials labeled called that explosion "a terrorist attack" as well.
It took place at a school in Boumerdes, about 40 miles (60 km) east of the capital city of Algiers.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for either attack.

Earlier this month, a blast near a police station in northern Algeria wounded 21 people. And a suicide bomber on a motorcycle targeted a military convoy in late July, wounding 13 soldiers.
In both instances, the militant group Al Qaeda Islamic Maghreb claimed responsibility.
The same group also is accused of orchestrating a double car bomb attack in Algiers in December that struck a United Nations' headquarters and Algeria's Constitutional Council building. The attack killed dozens of people, including 17 U.N. staffers.
AQIM seeks to destabilize countries such as Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia, which it sees as enemies of the Islamic state, authorities say.
