Developing iPhone Applications using Java
Google Tech Talks October 14, 2008 ABSTRACT Apple's iPhone has resulted in significant interest from users and developers alike. Apple's SDK for the iPhone is based on Objective-C as the development language as well as Cocoa for the GUI. Unfortunately Apple's license agreement for the iPhone SDK prohibits the porting of the Java virtual machine to the iPhone. In this presentation we introduce an Open Source Java-to-Objective-C cross-compiler as well as a Java-based implementation of the Cocoa library. With the help of these tools, iPhone applications can be written in pure Java. Using the Java version of Cocoa, it is possible to run a Java-based iPhone application as a Java desktop/applet application that can be cross-compiled to run natively on the iPhone. The talk will discuss the challenges of the Java-to-Objective-C cross-compiler as well as the Java-based version of Cocoa. Details are available at http://www.xmlvm.org/ Speaker: Arno Puder Arno Puder is an Associate Professor at the San Francisco State University. Prior to his current position, he worked for AT Labs Research. His interests include middleware, ubiquitous computing, and applications for sensor networks. He is one of the founders of the Open Source CORBA implementation called MICO.

Speculative Parallelization of Applications on Multicores
Google Tech Talks October 20, 2008 ABSTRACT The advent of multicores presents a promising opportunity for speeding up sequential programs via profile-based speculative parallelization of these programs. In this talk I will present a novel solution for efficiently supporting software speculation on multicore processors. Our execution model maintains the state of speculative parallel threads separately from the non-speculative state. Thus, if speculation is successful, the results of the speculative computation are committed by copying them to the non-speculative state. If misspeculation is detected, the speculative state is simply discarded. A lightweight mechanism that maintains version numbers for non-speculative data values enables misspeculation detection. Through profile-based speculative parllelization of a set of programs, our approach achieves speedups ranging from 3.7 to 7.8 on a Dell PowerEdge 1900 server with two Intel Xeon quad-core processors. Speaker: Rajiv Gupta Rajiv Gupta is a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the Univ. of California, Riverside. His research interests include Compiler and Architectural Support for Optimization and Software Tools for Profiling, Monitoring, and Debugging. He has published over 200 articles in refereed conferences and journals, he holds 8 US patents, and has supervised PhD dissertations of 16 students including two winners of ACM SIGPLAN Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award in the area of Programming Languages. Technologies and applications of interactive flood simulatio
Google Tech Talks May 15, 2008 ABSTRACT Severe flood disasters may frequently occur in near future because global warming will change the flood risk. To prepare the disaster, we propose global flood simulation software which simulates flood flow in short time on an earth viewer (i.e., global geographical information system). User can edit a flood scenario such as the location of levee failure by clicking on the earth viewer, then the software simulate the flood flow based on fluid dynamics. The simulation and GIS communicate each other using our technology, the flood information are visualized on the viewer even during the simulation. I will make a presentation about the technology and show how to work our flood simulation software. Speaker: Satoshi Yamaguchi I specialize in the geophysics, hydrodynamics and software development such as geographical information system (GIS). I conduct a research on flood disaster and develop flood simulation software on our original GIS for a number of years in Hitachi Central Research Laboratory. I studied physical oceanography in Tohoku University and received masters degree.

The LabelMe dataset and its applications to scene and object recognition
Google Tech Talks August 15, 2008 ABSTRACT We seek to build a large collection of images with ground truth labels to be used for object detection and recognition research. We used the "Tom Sawyer fence painting" approach, and developed a web-based tool that allows easy image annotation and instant sharing of such annotations. Using this annotation tool, we have collected a large dataset that spans many object categories, often containing multiple instances over a wide variety of images. We quantify the contents of the dataset and compare against existing state of the art datasets used for object recognition and detection. We have applied this dataset to scene and object recognition. Current object recognition systems can only recognize a limited number of object categories; scaling up to many categories is the next challenge. We seek to build a system to recognize and localize many different object categories in complex scenes. We achieve this through a simple approach: by matching the input image, in an appropriate representation, to images in a large training set of labeled images. Due to regularities in object identities across similar scenes, the retrieved matches provide hypotheses for object identities and locations. We build a probabilistic model to transfer the labels from the retrieval set to the input image. We demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach and study algorithm component contributions using held-out test sets from the LabelMe database. Joint work with Antonio Torralba, Byran Russell, Kevin Murphy, Rob Fergus and Ce Liu. Speaker: Bill Freeman, MIT and Adobe Systems Bill Freeman is a professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT, and a member of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). He studies computer vision, computer graphics, and machine learning, addressing how to represent, manipulate, and understand images. Before joining MIT, he worked for 9 years at Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs, for 6 years at the Polaroid Corporation, and for 1 year as a Foreign Expert at the Taiyuan University of Technology, Shanxi, China. Part time, he works at Adobe's Creative Technologies Lab. Hobbies include flying cameras in kites.

Rapid Prototyping of Ubiquitous Computing Applications: Tools & Frameworks
Google Tech Talks March, 24 2008 ABSTRACT Yang Li - RESEARCH SCIENTIST Pervasive or ubiquitous computing (ubicomp) applications can support people's everyday activities in the physical world by leveraging advances in sensor technologies and computing infrastructures. Designing ubicomp applications is challenging because our everyday activities are more complex, dynamic and less structured than the tasks supported by traditional desktop computing. Ubicomp design is difficult, time-consuming, and requires a high level of technical expertise, especially with sensor technologies. To address this, I created a set of rapid prototyping tools and frameworks. My early work with Topiary introduces high-level abstractions, such as maps and scenarios, for designers to easily model location contexts and specify location-based behaviors. Topiary also allows a design to be tested in the field via a Wizard of Oz approach, without deploying a location sensor infrastructure. My recent work is focused on activity-based ubicomp prototyping, a process for enabling long-term activities (such as keeping fit)—a larger unit for design than the tasks that are the focus of traditional design. To support such a process, I created ActivityDesigner, a system that allows designers to create functional prototypes of ubicomp applications based on field observations, and easily deploy and test these prototypes in situ. Speaker: Yang Li - RESEARCH SCIENTIST Yang Li is a research associate in the Computer Science and Engineering Department at the University of Washington. He works in the areas of human-computer Interaction and ubiquitous computing, focusing on activity-based ubiquitous computing, rapid prototyping tools and pen-based interaction techniques. Previously, he was a postdoctoral researcher in EECS at the University of California at Berkeley. He received his PhD in computer science from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Get Over 1,500 Free (Cracked Apps) AppStore Applications (Apps) for Firmwares 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2, 2.1 and 2.1.1
Visit www.ifortnerforum.com To Get Over 1,500 App Store Cracked Apps What is an .ipa file? An .ipa file is a file that iTunes can recognize as application files which you actually can drop into the applications library in iTunes. Once you drop these files into iTunes, you will be able to sync them onto your iPod touch or iPhone. This is very easy to do, you just need to follow this video and make and install iTunes 7.7.0. We will provide the links to download iTunes 7.7.0 so don't worry. You will also download a ipaprep application from Cydia which we will provide the source code for that too. www.ifortnerforum.com has the detailed instructions on how to upload .ipa game and application files straight into iTunes so you can sync them on to your iPhone/iPod touch just as easy as adding music to your iTunes library and syncing the music. IF YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS THEN READ THIS VERY CAREFULLY iTunes 7.7.1 or newer will not work with syncing cracked applications on to your iPhone/iPod touch. You will definitely need iTunes 7.7.0 in order for the cracked applications to sync on to your iPhone/iPod touch successfully and work properly. Make sure you go in to your "My Music" folder and save or backup your 'iTunes" folder so you don't lose your music and everything you have on iTunes now. Just save that folder somewhere safe or on your desktop so you can replace the iTunes folder with your backup "saved iTunes folder" after you uninstall your current iTunes and download iTunes 7.7.0. Make sure to restart your computer after removing your current iTunes and before installing iTunes 7.7.0 Click on the link below to download iTunes 7.7.0. http://www.filehippo.com/download_itunes/4389/ (Warning) Once you have successfully uploaded all your ".ipa" files (cracked applications), you are ready to sync them on to your iPhone/iPod touch. Unfortunately Apple Inc. has a limit to how many pages of application we can have on our iPhone/iPod touch. We have a maximum of 9 pages that can be filled with applications, this does include the native applications from Apple too. Not including the applications on the Dock, you figure you will have 16 applications on a page multiplied by 9 pages and that is how many applications you can have on the SpringBoard total. So subtract the number of Native applications from Apple and the applications you have installed from Cydia Installer and Installer 4.0 and that will be the number of applications you can sync on to your iPhone/iPod touch to avoid getting an error on iTunes. Okay, now that you have figured out how many applications you can sync on to your iPhone/iPod touch, go ahead and choose the "selected applications" choice rather than "sync all applications" now check the box on the right of each application you want to sync on to your iPhone/iPod touch. Once you are done with your selections, tap on either the "Sync" button or the "Apply" button. iTunes will try to start "backing up files". If this occurs, you have two options, a) Let iTunes backup your files and then iTunes will automatically start the syncing process. (Which can take up to 5 hours depending on your Internet connection.) OR b) You can stop the "backing up files" process by clicking on the little "X" on the right side of the "backing up files" located on the status bar at the top. This will end the "backing up files" process and start syncing your applications. It may take a minute or two after ending the "backing up files" process before you see that the status bar shows your applications syncing on to your iPhone/iPod touch so be patient and just wait. If you did everything successfully, you should have an iPhone/iPod touch full of great Appstore applications for free. YOUR DONE! _________________ Best Regards, iFortner iFortner Inc. www.iFortner.co.nr www.ifortnerforum.com www.youtube.com/ifortner www.myspace.com/ifortner
