Assam in North East part of India has been facing two major problems - the infiltration of foreigners from neighbouring countries (especially Bangladesh) and the ongoing revolution between the banned separatist group -United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) and the Indian Government for the past 27 years. Heroine Jeanne Assam Credits God in Stopping Church Gunman
"I just knew I was not going to wait for him to do any further damage--I knew what I had to do." --Jeanne Assam
Sgt. Jeff Johnson of the Colorado Springs Police Department reported that Matthew Murray of Englewood, CO, was carrying two handguns, an assault rifle, and 1,000 rounds of ammunition.
Jeanne Assam was outgunned, but she didn't hesitate to emerge from cover and confront the gunman who had just fatally shot two young ladies at her church (and wounded their father). She reports that she felt God's presence, and she didn't shake. When Murray failed to respond, she ended the threat without hesitation.
Fortunately, the New Life Church is not a "Gun-Free Zone" (like so many schools, post offices, or malls), or the bloodshed would no doubt have been far worse. And while she doesn't claim to be a heroine, I believe she is, God's help or not...after all, she could have acted like Jonah or Peter.
I'm sure that her actions are little comfort for the friends and family of the victims who were already shot by the gunman, but we can be grateful there were no more added to the list.
