Some more buchla.
The chords are set up by the 5 x 4 sequencer which is just triggered from the 4 touch plates on the left. The sequence is one oscillator sequenced from the main touchpad.

Charles Cohen at the Buchla Music Easel
This colorful video features sound artist Charles Cohen improvising on a 1970's Buchla Music Easel. This extremely rare instrument is one of Don Buchla's 200 series. Buchla (a pioneer of audio synthesis) only manufactured 14 of these units. The entire film was edited from an hour-long set of free improvisation, with audio was taken directly from Charles' mixing board.
All of the photography and editing was produced by Alex Tyson, a sound and video artist from Pennsylvania. The film was shot in 16:9 720p High Definition format, using the Letus35 Extreme and a 35mm LensBaby 3GPL. This film is free to distribute, share, blog, vlog, etc. When re-posting, please copy and paste this text to inform anyone about the film. Also.. please 'bling out' the embed size to 640x360.
At this time the film is only available online. While you can stream it in HD, it is best viewed on DVD.

Buchla 259 Vintage Modular Oscillator
Rare 1970's Modular Oscillator running through a Plan-B Vactrol Filter and Gate. There are Vactrols (components that mate LED's with audio for natural acoustic tones) in the Osc so this makes a close to vintage complete Buchla sound. The Osc sounds like nothing else I've heard with it's waveshaping and altering of harmonic structure of the waveform. There's a Modulation OSC that also can pitch same as Main but I use it here for FM, AM and Timbre Shaping. Used here also are my Doepfer LFO, Plan-B Random, ASys Envelope, Modcan Sequencer and Asys Delay/Sampler.

Plan B doing homage to Buchla
I took the new synth in today to get some adjustments done. While I was there Peter Grenader, the genius behind the PlanB modules showed me some tricks and how to properly use some of these modules thus opening my mind up to the Buchla philosophy of synthesis. It was such a great experience meeting the man behind the instrument, almost like a modern day version of a violin maker.
Well, this is what I did when I got home after watching Peter do some simple, but amazing patches on my synth. The last video was me running rampant on the PlanB, this one shows why I chose these modules. This is the first of many patches that will have that Buchla inspired PlanB sound.

The only thing added was reverb on the computer. I borrowed a LFO from the Filtered Coffee to get the time base to vary by using the control processor. Other than that, it's all self contained Plan B modules.

Buchla Lopass Gate 292 Clone
My Buchla-inspired MOTM format (prototype) of the Buchla 292 Lopass Gate. I used the VTL5C4 (slow) Vactrol for the circuit. I love the rubbery texture and fat response of the unit. It is a Don Buchla design per a Peter Grenader translation on Matthias's Fonik Modular website with a Mark Verbos resonance mod and some small personal touches.
