A summer afternoon in early 19th century Russia.
The country estate of Madame Larina and her two daughters Tatjana and Olga. The young girls and their friends await a visit from Olga's childhood sweetheart and fiancé, the poet Lensky.

The two sisters, Tatiana and Olga are awaiting a visit by Olga's fiancé, the poet Lenski. The girls play a game of looking in a mirror to catch a glimpse of their dream sweetheart. Lenski arrives with his friend from the city, the jaded aristocrat Eugene Onegin. Lenski pairs off with the flirtatious Olga. The quiet, bookish, naive Tatiana is attracted to the worldly Onegin.
