John Betjeman: Hymn & Croydon
For my friend Bob in America, here is 'Hymn' with the addition of 'Croydon' both by Betjeman. With a little rambling about the grevious state of affairs in English town architecture from yours truly. The opening music is Jack Hylton's 'She Shall Have Music'.

'Whitgift' was the Whitgift School, a lovely old building set in extensive grounds; later pulled down and the hideous Whitgift Centre built over it. Coulsdon woodlands are still there, and very beautiful they are, just outside the town centre. We used to go walking there of a Sunday and the place was full of peace. The only references I can find to 'spadgers' define as a sort of sparrow, apparently not common.
