ELDRIDGE DICKEY
First Black or African-American quarterback drafted in the first round by the NFL. Eldridge Dickey, was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in 1968 above Kenny Stabler. During the 1969 pre-season his performance proved Black quarterbacks were truly worthy of being drafted in the first round by the NFL. 7/18/2006, Long Island, New York. --"Blue Sky" is the eighth track by the Allman Brothers Band off the Eat A Peach album. The guitar solo is considered by many to be one of the greatest of all time.
Dickey Betts wrote this about his Native American girlfriend, Sandy "Bluesky" Wabegijig. And for a while, Betts refused to perform this after his 1975 divorce with Sandy, whom he wrote this for. Betts and Sandy Bluesky had a daughter, Jessica, on May 14, 1972. Betts wrote "Jessica" about her a year later.
Although Duane Allman was part of the recording of this song, he died before its release on Eat A Peach. The album is dedicated to him. Duane Allman and Dickey Betts played on the bridge solo - Duane going first followed by Dickey. They switch up half way through - listen very carefully and you will hear them synch up on a riff for two measures or so right around 2:30 into the track.
This is the first time Dickey Betts sang in an Allman Brothers song.

This amazing video is now presented in sync! Dickey Betts & Great Southern perform the Allman Brothers incredible tune "Back Where It All Begins" during his triumphant return to New York City's Beacon Theatre on 7/26/2006. This was Dickey's first performance in the Fillmore-like venue since the March Madness 2000, his last stint as a member of the Allman Brothers Band.
Let me put it bluntly: "Back Where It All Begins" is the best original song recorded in the 1990's...period. With a sound that is a cross between Idlewild South's "Revival" and "Ramblin' Man" from Brothers And Sisters, this is the title track from an incredible album called "Where It All Begins" (beautiful album cover art on this disc!), an album that has yielded several Allman Brothers Band live performance staples, some of them sounding as though they came from the debut album or Idlewild South, rather than from an album in the 1990's. Other concert favorites that have emerged from this under-recognized album include Sailin' 'Cross The Devil's Sea, No One To Run With (a real crowd-pleaser), and Soulshine, which has evolved into an epic live performance number.
