Ordet (Carl Theodor Dreyer, 1955) A Cinematic Miracle
Final scenes from Ordet directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer. It is based on a play by Kaj Munk.
The film centres around a family of farmers, who are part of a God-fearing community. There are three brothers: Mikkel, who has no faith; Anders, who wants to marry the daughter of Peter, a tailor who refuses the marriage because of Anders' religious beliefs; the third brother is Johannes, who has seemingly lost his mind and believes himself to be Jesus.

The intertitles say:
Jean: In France people call me Jean - at home they call me Jenny.
Bishop Cauchon: How old are You ?
Jean: 19 years - as it seems to me.
Bishop Cauchon: Do You know Your father ?
Jean nods.
Bishop Cauchon: Who tought You ?
Jean: My mother.
Bishop Cauchon: Would You recite the lords prayer here ?
Jean shakes her head.
Judge: You claim to be sent by God ?
Jean: To save France - this is, what I have been born for.
Judge: So You think, that God hates the English ?
Jean: About the hate or the love of God for the English I know nothing. But I do know well, that the English will be driven out of France - except those, who die here !
In the later process of her rehabilitation it is said, that her trials had been a sham - as the clerics had collaborated with the English.
In 1920 Jean had been canonized by the catholic church.

Vampyr (Carl Theodor Dreyer, 1932) The opening
The opening scenes from Dreyer's poetic-horror film Vampyr aka (Vampyr: Der Traum des Allan Grey (The Dream of Allan Grey ).
The film, produced in 1930 but not released until 1932, was originally regarded as an artistic failure. It got shortened by distributors, who also added narration. This left Dreyer deeply depressed, and ten years passed before he again was allowed to direct a feature film (Vredens Dag).
