Harry Larsen's flying Bayliner
Harry Larsen comes from a family of boat builders, so it is natural for him, following his retirement from Boeing, to build a special boat. About 2000 he fitted hydrofoils to a 24' Bayliner. That was the easy part, he says. Special talent was required to adapt a laptop computer as an autopilot for roll control. Mechanical and hydraulic devices control pitch and height. This is low altitude aviation, and the boat is a pleasure to fly.

Hifybe,High Flying Banana, flys again
Hifybe, high flying banana, is an experimental hydrofoil boat. Its hull was once a wind surfer board and it is powered by a 6 hp outboard motor. Its speed is about 16 mph. Hydrofoils are submerged wings. Hyfibe's wings are connected to the hull by struts. Water flowing over and under the wings create the lift. The principles of flight are much the same as in aircraft, but special attention must be given to roll, pitch and height control.
