2008 Paris Auto Show Highlights by Edmunds Inside Line
FOR FULL PARIS AUTO SHOW COVERAGE, CHECK OUT:

To certain people (we'll call them women), going to Paris in the fall means shopping on the Champs-Élysées, nibbling on pastries at sidewalk cafes and taking in the sights of one of the world's most beautiful cities.
That's all fine and good, but when we head to the City of Lights this October it will be for one thing and one thing only: the 2008 Paris Auto Show. With no competition from Frankfurt or Tokyo, the Paris auto show is the only game in town this fall, so there are guaranteed to be several world premieres at the Porte de Versailles convention center.
It should be a mix of everything from small and efficient to expensive and powerful. GM has already promised a firsthand look at the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze, a small sedan that will go on sale in Europe next year. Not to be outdone in the efficiency game, Honda will unveil an all-new hybrid sedan aimed directly at the Toyota Prius. With a base price under $20,000, it's designed to bring hybrid technology to the masses.
On the more expensive side, we'll see the Ferrari California and the 2009 BMW 7 Series. The BMW will be joined by an ActiveHybird version of this car as well as the 3 Series refresh and a concept version of the X1 compact SUV. There will be additional news from Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Nissan. Coverage starts on October 2, so check back then for all the latest from Europe's only major auto show this fall.

2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt by Edmunds' Inside Line
Ford doesn't build Mustangs to fly. That was true back in 1968 when Steve McQueen sent a GT 390 soaring over the hills of San Francisco in Bullitt. And it's true of the new 315-horsepower 2008 Mustang Bullitt.
We jumped it anyway. Not because we wanted to, but because we had to. It's a Mustang Bullitt, and that means it's gotta fly.

Spy Video: 2010 Ford Mustang by Inside Line
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/GeneralFuture/articleId=126178?tid=edmunds.il.futurelanding.latestnews..3.*
You have to look closely to see the changes in the 2010 Ford Mustang, the car that will be battling the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro for our attention. Our spy shooters were able to capture video of several prototypes on the streets of Michigan, and the cars all wore several layers of heavy camouflage.
There are some visible changes to the 2010 Mustang's grille, as some of these prototypes show some extra brightwork around the headlights. The hood has a slightly different shape as well, but it's probably nothing more than a little Styrofoam to hide the true design.
It doesn't appear as though heavy sheet metal changes are in the works for the rest of the car, since the overall greenhouse appears unchanged. Both the coupe and convertible test mules were wearing a new set of double-spoke wheels along with relatively low-profile tires. Changes to the rear end are harder to discern. Multiple pieces of disguise hide the true shape of the rear bumper, while the lights appear unchanged from the current model.
Most of the changes are expected to come under the hood. A 5.0-liter V8 will replace the current 4.6-liter V8, which should result in a decent bump in horsepower. It's not an all-new engine, though, merely an enlarged version of the 24-valve SOHC V8.
The real news will be the introduction of Ford's new EcoBoost 3.5-liter V6. Its twin-turbo setup should deliver more than 300 hp while delivering superior mileage compared to the 5.0-liter V8. How Ford will pitch the new high-tech engine is tough to call, but expect some sort of special edition to highlight the new power plant.
As finished as these prototypes look, the 2010 Ford Mustang isn't expected to go on sale until the fall of 2009. The EcoBoost-powered version will come even later. It sounds like a long way off, but the timing should give the new Mustang a little bit of breathing room after the introduction of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro earlier in the year.

We come to our first serious corner on Glendora Mountain Road, and the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Coupe delivers the unexpected. It turns into a tight left-hander with the haste and hunger of an import sport compact. Perhaps most surprising of all, it gives the impression of being happy to do it.

2007 Nissan Nismo 350Z by Edmunds' Inside Line
For Edmunds' Inside Line article:

Five years since its rebirth, the Nissan 350Z remains one of the world's great performance bargains. But it isn't pretty. It isn't subtle. And it doesn't care whether you think the cabin is stylish or not.
This is all part of the hard-core image Nissan has built for the Z. And rather than back away from it as the end of the Z-car's model cycle nears, Nissan is pushing this car's character right to the edge of reason.

2010 Chevrolet Cruze Spy Shots by Inside Line
CHECK OUT EXCLUSIVE 2010 CHEVROLET CRUZE SPY VIDEO:
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/GeneralFuture/articleId=130017?tid=edmunds.il.futurelanding.latestnews..2.*
Now that smaller cars are back in style, General Motors is working hard to make sure that its next economy sedan can compete with Japan's finest. How else would you explain the presence of the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze on the Nürburgring?
An all-new chassis is probably the main reason why the Chevrolet Cruze is undergoing such heavy development testing. Dubbed Delta 2, the new platform is expected to filter down to several other GM products like the Chevrolet HHR and Opel Zafira.
It remains front-wheel drive and from what we're told, it will feature a torsion-beam axle in back to keep down costs. That's a shame, really, as both Ford and Honda have figured out how to put independent suspensions in their compact sedans without breaking the bank. Of course, Chevrolet's engineers claim that the Cruze will ride and handle every bit as well as a Civic, Focus or Mazda 3. We'll see about that.
In Europe, the Chevy Cruze will be offered with a choice of four-cylinder gas and diesel engines. For the U.S. market, GM intends to fit a turbocharged, direct-injection 1.4-liter that will deliver up to 40 mpg in highway driving. We presume that number is for models equipped with a manual transmission. Hopefully Chevrolet will find a way to specify a six-speed automatic for those who don't want to do their own shifting, but given the cost reductions found elsewhere, don't count on it.
A replacement for the current Cobalt compact, the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze is scheduled to be unveiled this October at the 2008 Paris Auto Show. The Cruze will go on sale in Europe in spring 2009, but U.S. sales won't begin until mid-2010.

Ariel Atom Exclusive by Inside Line
FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE 2005 ARIEL ATOM:
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FullTests/articleId=131557
Think about the quickest road car you've ever driven. No, wait, scratch that. Think about the quickest road car you've ever heard of. No, wait. That won't do, either. Think about the quickest road car that's ever been. That's more like it. Now you're in the right area code.
Here's why: This highly modified 2005 Ariel Atom with its supercharged, 375-horsepower, 2.0-liter Honda engine hits 60 mph from a standstill in 2.8 seconds. Two-point-eight seconds! With an exclamation point! (And we never use an exclamation point.)
Measure its time to 60 mph with 1 foot of rollout like they do on a drag strip, and the Ariel gets to the mark in a scant 2.6 seconds — less time than we require to decide between paper and plastic.
For those of you keeping score at home, this makes this 2005 Ariel Atom quicker than any car we've ever tested — any Porsche, any Viper, any Vette and any other specialty marque like the Noble M400. But it gets better. The little Atom goes on to further embarrass the big names by punching its way through the quarter-mile in 10.6 seconds at 128.4 mph. It's the hardest accelerating car we've ever driven.

Over the last 40 years, Toyota has sold more than 30 million examples of the Corolla in 142 countries, earning this automobile the title of the world's best-selling passenger car on the planet. Even with the introduction of the entry-level Toyota Yaris and the youth-oriented Scion models, Toyota still managed to sell a record-breaking 390,000 Corollas in 2006 and is on track to match that number this year.
