JAXA 超高速インターネット衛星「WINDS」
2007年冬、打ち上げ！
データ通信を"メガ"から"ギガ"へ変える
超高速インターネット衛星「WINDS」
「WINDS」は、政府IT戦略本部の「e-Japan重点計画」
に基づいて研究開発が行われているもので、現在、
JAXAと独立行政法人情報通信研究機構との共同で
開発が進められ、世界最高水準の高度情報ネット
ワークの形成を目指しています。2007年度にH-IIA
ロケットによる打ち上げが予定されています。
将来の情報ネットワークの更なる高速・大容量化を
想定し、一般家庭でも超小型アンテナ（CS受信アンテナ
とほぼ同じ直径45センチ程度）を
設置することにより、最大155Mbpsの受信及び
6Mbpsの送信を、また企業等においては直径5メートル
級のアンテナを設置することにより最大1.2Gbpsの
超高速双方向通信の達成を目的としています。
さらに、国内インターネット網の超高速化にあわせた
国際的なインターネットアクセスの超高速化、
特に我が国と身近なアジア・太平洋地域の諸国との
超高速通信の実現も目的としています。
「WINDS」は、インターネット、教育、医療、災害対策、
ITS（高度道路交通システム）などの各分野における
衛星利用を推進する宇宙インフラ構想「i-Space」
の中で、大容量データ通信分野の技術実証を担う衛星
です。
「WINDS」には、より快適な通信環境を実現する
最先端技術が満載
広域性・同報性・耐災害性といった衛星通信の特徴を
活かして、IT社会で必要とされる高速大容量通信を実現
するとともに、国内のみならず国際的なインターネット
アクセスの超高速化、特にアジア・太平洋地域の超高速
通信の実現を目指しているのも特徴です。高速インター
ネット網が行き届いていない地域の
「デジタル・ディバイド解消」、いつでも・どこでも
高度な医療を提供できる「遠隔医療」、
離れた地点間の学校、研究者の交流を可能にする学術・
教育分野での応用など、データ通信のより有効な
使い道が現実のものとなっていきます。

2008: STS-124/ Kibo (NASA/JAXA)
Space Shuttle Discovery launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 17:02 local time on 31 May 2008 on the STS-124 mission to the International Space Station (ISS).
This delivers the main section of the Japanese Kibo laboratory - Kibo is the Japanese word for 'Hope'. Kibo becomes the third science laboratory on the ISS after the US Destiny and European Columbus. At 14.8 tonnes and 11.2 metres long, the cylindrical laboratory section, the Japanese Pressurised Module (JPM), was too big for just one shuttle mission. The Japanese equipment to be installed in the lab - the Japanese Logistics Module (JLM) - arrived on a seperate shuttle flight earlier in 2008.

JAXA - The H-IIA Launch Vehicle No.11 review (full)
The H-IIA Launch Vehicle No. 11 (H-IIA F11) with the Engineering Test Satellite VIII "KIKU No. 8" (ETS-VIII) onboard was launched from the Tanegashima Space Center at 3:32 p.m. on December 18, 2006 (JST).
The launch vehicle flew smoothly, and, at 27 min and 35 sec after liftoff, the "KIKU No. 8" separation was confirmed.
技術試験衛星ETS-VIII「きく8号」を搭載したH-IIAロケット11号機は日本時間2006年12月18日午後3時32分に種子島宇宙センターから打ち上げられました。ロケットは順調に飛行し、27分35秒後に衛星を分離し、打ち上げは成功しました。
