He was a voice on the left of local Toronto politics who worked in the fight against AIDS, opposed Toronto's bid for the 96' Olympics and helped create the White Ribbon Campaign to stop violence against women. As leader of the NDP in Ottawa he's run in two federal elections and played a big role in the House of Commons. But Layton wants more - he wants to be Prime Minister.
