PN Confused on 16 Year Old Vote
The PN strategists had another confused reaction to Labour leader Joseph Muscat's proposal to reduce the age of eligibility for voting in local elections to 16 years. As soon as Joseph Muscat's article was published in The Times on Monday, a campaign of criticism and attacks was initiated by the PN strategists.
The first stone was thrown by PN apologist, cum strategist, Daphne Caruana Galizia who went as far as describing sixteen year olds as people who haven't yet learned how to think, and going one step further, she compared Joseph Muscat to a drug pusher, cigarette manufacturer or promoter of alcopops, wanting someone to get hooked on a very bad habit at a very crucial age, when vices are easily adopted.
Daphne Caruana Galizia was soon joined by Andrew Borg Cardona, who writes in The Times under the pseudonym IMBeck, calling the proposal superficial and with no basis.
However, despite this negative strategy from PN's side, this proposal was received with great enthusiasm by the general public especially the younger generation.
Faced by this reaction, the PN strategists changed their attitude and instead tried to take credit for Joseph Muscat's proposal.
To mend the damage caused by Caruana Galizia and Borg, PN sought to promote this message in an official manner through its youth organisation MZPN. They also tried to make use of coverage in the PBS news bulletin.
This damage control strategy continued on Tuesday in the editorial of the Nationalist paper in Nazzjon, where once again, PN tried to take credit for Joseph Muscat's progressive proposal.
Sources told maltastar.com that it appears once more that the PN strategists are confused on how to tackle the positive attitude of Joseph Muscat.
