NaturalMotion, has been working for years to hone euphoria to accurately replicate real-world physics such as strength, weight, and momentum with in-game character models. Whereas before, all animations had to be pre-programmed, euphoria allows for reactions and behaviors to occur in real-time -- allowing models to react realistically to whatever situation might arise.
To be clear, euphoria is not an AI program, it's an animation technology that allows for physically accurate behaviors. The AI is programmed by the developer.

NaturalMotion has revealed a new video showcasing their breakthrough euphoria engine, the animation technology that generates human motions in real-time. The video illustrates how euphoria enables game characters to be truly interactive and exhibit a previously impossible degree of believability.
Using the processing power of next-generation hardware, euphoria eliminates the need for pre-canned animations, replacing them with real-time simulations that create completely interactive characters and unique game moments.
euphoria was developed by NaturalMotion, an Oxford- and San Francisco-based software developer, and will debut in the hotly anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV on April 29, 2008.

Endorphins are endogenous opioid polypeptide compounds. They are produced by the pituitary gland and the hypothalamus in vertebrates during strenuous exercise,excitement, and orgasm,and they resemble the opiates in their abilities to produce analgesia and a sense of well-being. Endorphins work as "natural fever relievers", whose effects may be enhanced by other medications.
The term "endorphin" implies a pharmacological activity (analogous to the activity of the corticosteroid category of biochemicals) as opposed to a specific chemical formulation. It consists of two parts: endo- and -orphin; these are short forms of the words endogenous and morphine, intended to mean "a morphine like substance originating from within the body."
