Si Bheag Si Mhor - Turlough O'Carolan
Tab is at the link below.(Please don't download without leaving a comment here on YouTube). http://www.humyo.com/F/106754737 You'll need Tefview - get it free from: www.tabledit.com Tune by Turlough O'Carolan in DGDGAD tuning. I've never really got on with DADGAD and was chuffed when I "discovered" this variant. I searched for as many versions as I could find to make this piece. This version was inspired by Dave Evans, William Coulter and a fantastic fast arrangement by Steve Cooney from a BBC documentary on Celtic music.

Si Bheag Si Mhor O'Carolan celtic harp tune
My arrangement was inspired by the bluebells in our local wood - where I recorded this version. The flowers are beautiful and I hope you enjoy the music. Si Bheag Si Mhor is about a battle between two tribes of fairies - and the bluebell forest seems appropriate. I've used "bell-like" sounds in the music. You can get a version with higher-quality pictures and sound at http://www.vimeo.com/730771 which you can also download to keep on your machine if you like.

Carolan's Dream - played on celtic harp
Turlough O'Carolan was an irish harpist who lived in the mid-1600s and wrote pieces for the people he met and stayed with - playing music in exchange for hospitality. Tradition has it that the harp was played last thing at night, before people went to bed. The building I'm playing it in was a bakery built around 1790, serving the local houses. The bread oven is in the stone wall behind me, and the building has a new floor and triple-glazing on the windows. It's a great mixture of old and new and a great place to play this music. Appropriately, I recorded this piece very late one night, and just went with the first take so the playing has the odd rough bits. I like to think that's authentic - apparently Carolan never played the same way twice. Bet he never had as much trouble as I did finding DivX codecs, either! Only the melodies survive, so I've done this arrangement myself and I'm playing it here on a Pilgrim gut-strung harp. The arrangement and video is my copyright. You are welcome to learn and play the arrangement (by ear - I haven't written it down!) if you like it - but please credit me if you play it in public. If you like it, I'll post more music. To make the recording I used a Sony 3-CCD camera direct to hard disk, with one audio take, noise-reduced in Cool Edit Pro, with Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the visuals together. If you want a higher-quality file to download and keep on your computer, just send me a message.

O'Carolan Medley on Cello Banjo
After being inspired by Marcy Marxer's version of O'Carolan's Draught, I thought I would try a version of Planxty George Brabazon and O'Carolan's Draught together. The Cello Banjo is wonderful when it plays this kind of music.

Hewlet (Turlough O'Carolan)
This great tune is from the beloved Turlough O'Carolan (1670 to 1738) who was one of the last of the wandering Irish harpers and is considered by many to be the national composer. After being blinded by smallpox, Turlough was taught the harp and given a horse, then for almost fifty years, he journeyed from one end of the country to the other, composing for rich patrons and performing his tunes. One story goes that he fell asleep on a fairy rath one night to awake with all the tunes with which he would enthrall all Ireland. He even worked with styles derived from continental Baroque composers, but was of course mostly inspired by the tradition of the bardic harpists, who unfortunately are now lost to us. Here's the sheet music: http://www.box.net/shared/sp0p0fkaos It's #17
