In Frankfurt he starred in Madama Butterfly, Faust and Die Frau Ohne SchattenNo stranger to the Italian lyric stage, he sang Tristan and Isolde (Act 2) in concert in Rome, Manon Lescaut in Bologna, and Carmen in Genoa. The Italian premiere of Ägyptische Helena in Cagliari found him starring as Menelas, later released as a CD by Dynamic.

At the Welsh National Opera, he sang Parsifal, Madama Butterfly and Tosca. Robert Wilson's staging of The Ring of the Nibelungs in Zürich featured him in the title role of Siegfried, a role he also sang with the English National Opera.
