2.1 Setting
A jovem Almirena havia sido seqüestrada pela feiticeira Armida, através de uma
nuvem cheia de monstros, na presença de Rinaldo, durante um encontro idílico e
romântico (Ato I). Na cena desse recitativo e ária, a jovem encontra-se em um
jardim do palácio encantado da feiticeira e lamenta o seu destino. O rei Argante,
amante de Armida, declara o seu amor à jovem, mas ela não lhe dá esperanças.
Só quer lamentar seu triste destino e almejar a liberdade. O rei, então comovido,
promete ajudar a libertá-la
