Rising out of the chaparral-covered Gabilan Mountains, east of central California's Salinas Valley, are the spectacular remains of an ancient volcano. Massive monoliths, spires, sheer-walled canyons and talus passages define millions of years of erosion, faulting and tectonic plate movement.
Rhyolitic breccia is the rock that the High Peaks and other rock formations at Pinnacles are made of. Rhyolite breccia is composed of lava sand, ash, and angular chunks of rock that were explosively ejected from the Pinnacles Volcano.
The park, in Central California, is a release site for the endangered California condor, and the birds can sometimes be seen from hiking trails throughout the park.

The hiking path shown on this video ascends around 1,500 feet and is about a 7 mile "loop" that starts from the east side of the park, goes thru' the Balconies Caves (shown on my last video) and then climbs over the summit and then back down . . . and OH! you REALLY don't wanna attempt this trail at the height of the summer heat, unless you're a masochist, or training for running ultramarathons like I used to do all the time . . . which can ALSO be grouped under the category of "masochist"! LOL
The song is the great Jimi Hendrix reggae version of "Stairway to Heaven". I've never thought of reggae as bein' a "mellow" type of music, but THIS song sure is!
