Ayn Rand Phil Donahue Interview Part 1 of 5
In her first public appearance since husband Frank O'Connor's death, we see a rare personal side of Rand—" As always, the ideas do shine through: the acknowledgement of achievement; the evils of altruism; American schools sacrificing the gifted for the less gifted; the nationalization of American oil interests in the Middle East; the fatal arguments for the existence of God;... and much more.

Remington-Rand Present the Univac
UNIVAC is one of the earliest commercial computers and was easily the most famous computer of the 1950s. This film, produced between 1950 and 1952, shows how the UNIVAC computer was used in business, defense and by the census. The film shows several of the important portions of the UNIVAC system at work, including the high-speed printer, the UNISERVO tape drive, the UNITYPER, card readers and the mercury delay line tanks that served as main memory. The programming process is fully discussed and a business problem is demonstrated. These films served a promotional film as well as a way to demystify computers to the average person.

Ingersoll Rand Hybrid Permanent Motor (HPM)
The Nirvana HPM system is not only ultra-efficient and reliable, but is also designed to enable limitless starts and stops to meetdemand, without the risk of damaging itself. This type of motortechnology is often used in elevators, where safety, efficiency, andreliability are vital concerns. Frequent starts and stops is a problem for conventional induction VSD compressors — doing so causes heat problems and insulationbreakdown. When they do start up, these compressors requirea power surge of up to twice full-load current in order toovercome initial inertia. This generates excessive heat andlimits the operating pattern of the compressor. Induction VSD compressors also run unloaded when demand is belowminimum, reducing efficiency and driving up energy costs. The Nirvana HPM, on the other hand, requires less power at start-up, never operates at more than full-load amps, and shuts downimmediately at minimum speed to avoid wasted energy. Nirvanaensures constant pressure throughout the entire operating range.
