Scratching in Ableton Live: ammobox
A demonstration of my new instrument ammobox. ammobox allows you to scratch audio by triggering samples asyncronously with MIDI, the turntable provides velocity and rotation control.
What you see on the screen is me dropping MIDI notes into an Ableton Live MIDI loop, as each note is hit, it injects the sample into the stream allowing me to scratch it.
It should be noted that this is a pretty unique method in that it allows you to 'latch' sounds and hold on to them after they would have terminated due to the note-off event or the sample being over, you can then overlay samples and build up layers of them while scratching.

Dutch TV: evidence for scratching XBox 360
Kassa, a Dutch TV-show for consumers, has shown evidence that Microsoft's XBox 360 damages the games. The lense makes scratches because Microsoft forgot to put rubber cushions around the lense.

For the record: I filmed about 15 minutes of my cat playing on the turntables, and edited it down to this. I wanted it to sound good, so I recorded the audio into pro tools, and then edited that audio to the clip in imovie. The chemical bros part is obviously fake, my editing/transfer of audio from pro tools into imovie was not very good, and the compression/youtube upload made the video really jerky... but for the most part this is real, live cat scratching!
And here's a bonus for anyone still reading: the full 18 minute Mega Acieeed track used in the video. Enjoy!
