Invocation of the Protective Angels
This is part of the bedtime Shema, the prayers and meditations before sleep, found in the Siddur after the evening service, Maariv. One of the most ancient names of G-d is "El" - and we see that name in the names of the angels. The first angel is Michael - "mi"="who" - "C"="like" [is] like G-D - right side The second angel is Gavriel - the Gevurah, power of G-d - left side The third angel is Uriel - the Or - light of G-d - in front The fourth angel is Rafael - healed by G-d - following The fifth angel is Shekhinat El - the Shekhina - feminine presence of G-d - above the head. The breathing sounds are reminders to take deep, full breaths as you do the meditation, through the nose, holding slightly as feels comfortable. This meditation brings great protection and comfort, and can be used as a mantra anywhere, anytime. In Jewish thought, angels are not independent beings; they are simply messengers of the creator. This is called an "Invocation," but it is not really calling anything into existence that is not already there - the protection is always there, it is our birthright... Also, there is a mispronounciation in the word "milfanai" - I say it "mil-e-fanai" and it should be "milfanai." Nobody's perfect... . .. .

Hashivi Li S'soneich [audio quality to be improved]
Ariel Rosen sings Hashivi Li S'soneich with an inimitable haunting beauty. These are the final two lines of Rav Kook's poem, "My Song, My Beauty." The words are: Return Your Delight to me, My Beauty, my Song. We understand this as being addressed to the Shekhina, the Indwelling Female Presence of God. This ditty serves as the Introduction to Reb Drew's new Lecha Dodi on his upcoming CD: Kirtan Rabbi: Live at B'nai Jeshurun Music by Rabbi Andrew Hahn and Alyson Solomon Chant idea inspired by Rabbi Itzchak Marmorstein

K'Gavna Dayinun - Invocation of the Sabbath Queen
"Just as the six sephirot unite" describes how the lower spheres in the Tree of Life unify to prepare a vessel for the Shekhina. The six days of the week unite in Shabbat, to make a place for the Shabbat Bride. All of the various forces unite to make a place to recieve the flow of blessing from the Creator Before Time - this is the "raza d'echad" the "secret of ONE." Here is a translation of K'Gavna: Just as the [six] Sephirot unite above in Oneness without evil so Sephera Malchut unites below in the secret of Oneness so She may join those above One receiving One. The Holy One, Blessed is He, the One above, does not sit on His Throne of Glory until She below, the Shabbes Queen, is made over in the secret of Oneness like His that they may join in a Oneness of Oneness. Thus have we set forth the secret of G-D's Oneness: His name is One. This is the secret of Shabbes: She (Malchut) is called Shabbes when One, when She is united up in the secret of One, occurring in the fullness of Shabbes, for then the Holy Throne of Glory unifies with the secret of Oneness, and becomes ready for the Holy King to mount it, when Shabbes arrives, She unifies Herself and divests Herself of the other side, all harsh judgements are removed from Her and She unifies with the Holy Light, with Holiness, and crowns Herself with many crowns in behalf of the Holy King. All dominions tremble in agitation and bearers of trials flee from Her together and Her appointment overwhelms, Her dominion arises, and then, with completion, Her myriad creations rejoice. Her face glows with Heavenly Light, and She takes those below who see Her up as Her Crown, and they crown themselves with Shabbes Souls. More information is at http://ifdawn.com, and a full version of the audio is here: http://devartorah.com/audio/kgavna.mp3. The audio is me reading from the Zohar overlayed with samples of my own voice and Tibetan bowls and bells I have. The didjeridoo is from the Jonah Sharp / Terence McKenna collaboration, and the fountain is from Kenneth Anger's "Eaux d'Artifice." The dancers are Mary Love, Mona Lopez, and Scott Nobody. The water is Sloan Lake, Denver, and a pool at the top of Trail Ridge Pass, in Rocky Mountain National Park. The video is from as early as 1987, with a low-tech remix done in 1989. I did the 3D work as well. There are several technical problems that need to be fixed; I am contemplating making a DVD with full length, delux versions of everything. . .

partâ‘  o vap air ad ox
another eLiG practiSession mixing up Bach's 1st prelude in C major with parts of John Lennon's Imagine and What a Wonderful World so far there are 3 parts but will reImagine this again in 2008 best to you all. from japan, eLi G. LoVeARThOpeACE o V e ART h O p e ACEveryonEverywherEveryday that is our goaL ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ a poem by Ellen Bass: Pray for Peace Pray to whomever you kneel down to: Jesus nailed to his wooden or plastic cross, his suffering face bent to kiss you, Buddha still under the bo tree in scorching heat, Adonai, Allah. Raise your arms to Mary that she may lay her palm on our brows, to Shekhina, Queen of Heaven and Earth, to Inanna in her stripped descent. Then pray to the bus driver who takes you to work. On the bus, pray for everyone riding that bus, for everyone riding buses all over the world. Drop some silver and pray. Waiting in line for the movies, for the ATM, for your latte and croissant, offer your plea. Make your eating and drinking a supplication. Make your slicing of carrots a holy act, each translucent layer of the onion, a deeper prayer. To Hawk or Wolf, or the Great Whale, pray. Bow down to terriers and shepherds and Siamese cats. Fields of artichokes and elegant strawberries. Make the brushing of your hair a prayer, every strand its own voice, singing in the choir on your head. As you wash your face, the water slipping through your fingers, a prayer: Water, softest thing on earth, gentleness that wears away rock. Making love, of course, is already prayer. Skin, and open mouths worshipping that skin, the fragile cases we are poured into. If you're hungry, pray. If you're tired. Pray to Gandhi and Dorothy Day. Shakespeare. Sappho. Sojourner Truth. When you walk to your car, to the mailbox, to the video store, let each step be a prayer that we all keep our legs, that we do not blow off anyone else's legs. Or crush their skulls. And if you are riding on a bicycle or a skateboard, in a wheelchair, each revolution of the wheels a prayer as the earth revolves: less harm, less harm, less harm. And as you work, typing with a new manicure, a tiny palm tree painted on one pearlescent nail or delivering soda or drawing good blood into rubber-capped vials, writing on a blackboard with yellow chalk, twirling pizzas-- With each breath in, take in the faith of those who have believed when belief seemed foolish, who persevered. With each breath out, cherish. Pull weeds for peace, turn over in your sleep for peace, feed the birds, each shiny seed that spills onto the earth, another second of peace. Wash your dishes, call your mother, drink wine. Shovel leaves or snow or trash from your sidewalk. Make a path. Fold a photo of a dead child around your VISA card. Scoop your holy water from the gutter. Gnaw your crust. Mumble along like a crazy person, stumbling your prayer through the streets.
