Su-25 Frogfoot
Introduced in 1980, the Su-25 Frogfoot was the first dedicated ground attack aircraft produced by the Soviet Union since the World War Two era propeller driven Il-2 Shturmovik. drawing heavily on lessons learned by the American Air Force during the vietnam war, and mirroring the performance of the American A-10 Warthog, the Frogfoot is a rugged aircraft capable of accuratly delivering a heavy payload from low altitude and surviving in the low level, high threat forward area environment.

Su-25 "Frogfoot"
The Sukhoi Su-25 is a single-seat, twin-engine jet aircraft developed in the Soviet Union by the Sukhoi Design Bureau. It was designed to provide close air support for the Soviet Ground Forces. The first prototype made its maiden flight on 22 February 1975. After testing, the aircraft went into series production in 1978 at Tbilisi in the Soviet Republic of Georgia. NATO assigned the new aircraft the reporting name "Frogfoot".
Early variants included the Su-25UB two-seat trainer, the Su-25BM for target-towing, and the Su-25K for export customers. Upgraded variants developed by Sukhoi include the Su-25T and the further improved Su-25TM. As of 2007, the Su-25 is the only armoured airplane still in production except the Su-34 whose production just started. It is currently in service with Russia and various other CIS states as well as export customers.
When the SU-25 first saw combat in Afghanistan it lost a few to heat seeking missiles like the SA-7 and Stinger but this problem was solved when a sheet of armor plating was put between the two engines — ie when one engine was hit it self destructed and took out the other engine. After this modification was made there were no further losses to manportable SAMs in Afghanistan.

Su-25 of Georgian air force is bombing Tskhinvali!
Грузинские Су-25 нанесли удар по Южной Осетии.
Командующий смешанными силами по поддержанию мира (ССПМ) в зоне грузино-осетинского конфликта генерал Марат Кулахметов заявил, что грузинские ВВС нанесли воздушный удар по территории Южной Осетии.
"В общей сложности пять грузинских самолетов Су-25 - сначала два самолета, а затем три - нанесли удар по территории Южной Осетии в районе населенного пункта Тквернети", - сообщил он агентству "Интерфаксу". В командовании миротворческих сил пока не располагают информацией о последствиях нанесенного грузинскими ВВС авиаудара.
В день начала Олимпийских игр, когда во все времена было принято прекращать любые войны, Грузия совершила нападение на Южную Осетию. Грузинские войска штурмуют Цхинвали по всем направлениям, в бой брошены танки. Город обстреливается из всех видов крупнокалиберного оружия, включая реактивные системы залпового огня "Град". По предварительным данным, в Цхинвали погибли 15 мирных жителей. Грузинская сторона заявляет, что была вынуждена отказаться от объявленного ранее одностороннего моратория на ведение огня и открыть ответный огонь после непрекращающегося обстрела грузинских сел юго-осетинскими формированиями.
