Yad Vashem's world famous Holocaust History Museum is a prism-like triangular structure that penetrates the mountain from one side to the other, with both ends dramatically cantilevering into the open air. An experiential dimension was integrated into the museum's design, giving visitors an overall impression of the time, place and atmosphere. Inside the museum, a series of diagonal channels cut in the floor of the walkway (prism) guides the visitor into each of the eight-meter high underground galleries depicting different chapters of the Shoah. The gently sloping floor and narrowing prism enhances the changing narrative, creating the illusion of descending deep into the mountain. Different aspects of the Holocaust are reflected through the use of original artifacts, documentation, testimonies, film, literature, diaries, letters, and works of art.

Sarkozy Visits Yad Vashem, Lights Eternal Flame And Commemor
On the second day of his official visit to Israel, French President Nicolas Sarkozy arrived on Monday to the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem.
In accordance with tradition during the visit of a Head of State, the French President lit the eternal flame which commemorates the 6 million Jews massacred by the Nazis in the Second World War.
A Rabbi then said the Mourner's Kaddish, the prayer of the deceased. This was Sarkozy's second visit to the Yad Vashem memorial, the first being for the the inaguration of a new meseum at Yad Vashem in 2004, when he was a government minister.

Yad Vashem Chairman Avner Shalev Speaks at Ceremony in Spain
On, Friday, October 26, 2007, Yad Vashem received the prestigious Prince of Asturias Award for Concord from Spain's Crown Prince Felipe. Yad Vashem's nomination was proposed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and supported by eminent public figures from around the world. The award ceremony took place at the Campoamor Theatre in Oviedo, Spain, in the presence of the Spanish Royal Family. Holocaust survivors and Righteous Among the Nations accompanied Avner Shalev on the stage to accept the Award. They were enthusiastically received by the audience, who then stood for a moment of silence, to show their respect to the memory of those who perished during the Holocaust.
