Stuck in Vermont 50: 24 Hour Comics Day
10/20/07: Are you up to the comics challenge? Are you prepared to exercise your drawing skills and indulge your inner night owl?
In the span of 24 hours, 1200 novice and experienced cartoonists each drew a 24 page comic. There were 87 events taking place in 18 countries and 28 US states.
In Williston Vermont at Artists' Mediums, 10+ artists gathered in the front of the store to put their artistic skills to the grueling test.
Could they stay up the entire 24 hours? Could they finish an entire comic with no preparation time allowed? And would the brownies last all night?
Ages ranged from 11 to 76 and styles varied considerably. Naps were had, sodas were consumed and a father/son team each told imagination-rich tales with their individual stories.

(July 3)Prosecutors say it was *this* man who carefully orchestrated events and e-mails --- that led to the disappearance of 12-year-old Brooke Bennett. Police say Bennett's body was found -- in a shallow grave near the home of her uncle ---42-year-old Michael Jacques. (( pronounced: Jakes)))(nats vigil) Now --as this small Vermont town comes to grips with this tragedy --- residents here are coming forward to support a grieving family.....CLIFF CARR: [Notes:SOT: This is a wake up call for us....you know people don't think this could happen here--but well..I guess it does.] Bennett disappeared a week before her body was found. She was last seen on store surveillance tape...with Jacques -- a previously convicted sex offender. In Randolph--many are wishing they could have done something to prevent this loss. BRITNEY BUTLER: [Notes:SOT: I think we need to do something for the family....they are really grieving.]This woman who knows Bennett's family....and does not want to be named ----says there's only one thing she can do. Moonlight in Vermont
Pretty tune...love the Sinatra version. One of the swingest versions is by Mulgrew Miller on the Contemporary Piano Ensemble album 'Four Pianos for Phineas'. He is a perfect blend of taste, space and light virtuosity. Check out the block chords he does! Phineas also does a lovely version on While My Lady Sleeps which is an album featuring him with strings. James Williams told me that Phineas just turned up at the studio and sight-read all the arrangements with no prior practice. After every tune they did, the orchestra tapped their bows on the music stands and have him a standing ovation...A sign that there were in the presence of a genius. Anyway, hope you like my version - its as subtle as I could make it. :-)
