P.S. Waverley Crusing Ailsa Craig, Scotland
A trip from Ayr to Ailsa Craig and back on the paddle steamer 'Waverley' in it's 60th anniversary year sailing.
The island is home to more than 40,000 pairs of gannet. This makes it the third most important site in the UK for this species after St. Kilda and Bass Rock. Ailsa Craig is also a haven for various other seabirds, including guillemots and razorbills, puffins are also making a comeback after all the brown rats on the island were eliminated.
The lighthouse on the island was completed in 1886, this lighthouse is now automated and Ailsa Craig does not have any human residents.
