(A Video About Asperger's Syndrome)
INFORMATION:
My name is Alex Olinkiewicz and when I was 6 I was diagnosed with Asperger's (A High Functioning form of Autism). Ten years later I made this video to help you and others understand what its like inside my head. I show you how I behave and how I think by webcam and by using cartoon pictures that I drew on MS Paints (Microsoft).
RECEPTION:
Ever since I posted this video it has received many positive things. First it became a Featured Video on the front page of YouTube. This video has won 2nd place in the 2007 East End Student Film Project and was nominated for Best Commentary Video for the 2007 YouTube Awards. This video was shown at the Western Suffolk Counselor's Association spring conference in front of 25 counselors and will be shown again this time in front of 300 counselors. Also this video have received many comments, sure I have got a few bad comments, but mostly all of them are strong positive comments from Parents who has kids who are diagnosed, Teachers, People who has friends who are Autistic, and also people who have Asperger's/Autism. Also this video will be shown on a public television station called BronxNet on a TV show called The Crystal Stairs.

Lecture delivered by Temple Grandin, a noted expert and author on early intervention, educational strategies, visual thinking, social skills, medications and mentoring. Grandin presents around the world and is the author of several books including Emergence: Label Autistic, Thinking in Pictures, Unwritten Rules of Social Relationships, co-authored with Sean Barron. In addition to several DVDs, her recent release of Animals in Translation maintained a top 10 position on the New York Times best-seller list. Based on statistics provided by the Autism Society of America, it is estimated that one in every 150 children born in the United States has autism and approximately 1 million in this country have this disorder, which does not include Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD), Asperger's and other spectrum disorders. A new case of autism is diagnosed nearly every 20 minutes, meaning approximately 24,000 new cases diagnosed in the U.S. per year.

This short comedy discusses that specific situation which we all encounter on a daily basis where you try to avoid that person you just don't want to talk to. "Your walking along and you see someone, you don't really know them but you have to acknowledge their existence because their your second cousins ex girl friend's sister and you don't want to look like a jerk so you kind of look in the opposite direction and pretend you don't see them but it doesn't seem to work..." This film was shot in around 4 hours in Walla Walla Washington at the filmmaker's boot camp.
