GREEN CARNATION BALCONYTV.COM 26/08/2006
As with its namesake blossom's first appearance, peering from beneath the permafrost of Norway's winter, each successive Green Carnation album is a welcome sight in the dreary sameness of today's metal scene.
With Light of Day, Day of Darkness, the six piece format recorded one of the most ambitious (and critically praised) projects of all time, Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness. The hour-long platter is comprised solely of the title track. Recorded on 150 tracks, employs thirty musicians (including a children's choir), and more than 600 distinct samples, many reviewers were at a loss to pin down precisely what they heard, but there was no denying the brilliance within the sounds, declaring Green Carnation amongst the most innovative acts in metal's history.
2005 saw Green Carnation members Tchort and Kjetil Nordhus starting their own record-company, Sublife Productions. They signed Green Carnation, and the band recorded their very first acoustic album.

MOESLEY BALCONYTV.COM 27/07/2006
If variety is the spice of life, Moesley are a musical curry. From their beginnings in 2004, Moesley have developed a sound that diversifies with each song, while retaining a common strand of quirkiness that is distinctly theirs. Their gigs have become a must, taking audiences on sometimes bizarre, often unusual, but always hugely entertaining journeys. This Dublin band incorporate styles to suit everyone, making them an extremely refreshing prospect.
Moesley are a Band from Artane, Dublin that consists of Glenn, Colm and Eoin Cullen, Paul O'Brien and David Murray.
Moesley are releasing their First single late summer '06. The sinlge "All Thats Left" was recorded over a 4 day recording and mixing session in dublins top of the range Creamy Sonic Studios.

JAMES O TOOLE BALCONYTV.COM 21/08/2006
James O' Toole is a well known Dublin street musician who has decided to start working on getting his numerous original songs out to other musicians and the public. James was born in Dublin's Fatima Mansions flats complex. James has been writing songs for many years and has taught himself to play numerous instruments. "Music has been and will always be my rope if i ever feel like i'm going under, i feel like i've built up so much anger and fire in my belly because of the state of the world, maybe because of where i grew up, but music is the soothing balm, it's my release valve, it stops me from exploding!...in the last year i've really felt that i've been discovering my voice gaining the range i needed to express myself completely..." The word according to James O' Toole.

NIGEL PLACE BALCONYTV.COM 16/08/2006
Currently recording songs with Len Arran as producer Nigel Place, a singer and writer of songs, Nigel first started to 'play' guitar in a metal covers band at the age of 14. Having checked out the Singer/Songwriter scene in Dublin, Nigel decided that he was no worse than the worst and first played at one of Dave Murphy's infamous tuesday nights upstairs at the International Bar, becoming a regular there and was one of the guests selected to play at the special closing shows to mark that era. Another one of the nights Nigel played often was Molloy's Open Mic in Christchurch, hosted by Ken Burke. Both of these nights saw such acts as Ken Burke, Damien Dempsey, Mundy, Paddy Casey, Declan O'Rourke, Roesy and Gemma Hayes all take the stage on a regular basis. Now after a numbers of years out spent getting to grips with being a family man, Nigel has ventured out again with a new batch of songs and a resurgent love for music and writing. Nigel can be found most Tuesday's in The Bankers Inn on Trinity Street hosted by Dave Murphy.

SCOTT MAHER REMASTERED BALCONYTV.COM 27/09/2006
In Scotts words - I fell off my bike when I was 15 and broke my left arm and sprained my right - It was then I realised how much music meant to me 'cos I couldn't play the chord of C properly on the guitar. Music is my work and music is my love - I've been lucky enough to be in different bands and travelled far and wide, up and down and I've played some really great gigs and met some amazing people (Sir George Martin, lots of people I admire and ..... the Queen of England - weird ! I love that music makes me laugh so hard 'cos of the stuff that happens and the strangest people in the most unlikely places you meet along the way - Of course I want to sell 40 million records and be on the tip of your tongue but for me it's about the journey and not the destination and so far the journey is on the up .....I released my debut album Cartoon Moon last year to surprisingly great reviews likening it to a mix of Jeff Buckley/Beatles/Crowded House and I have two songs on movies coming out this year and early next year 07 in the USA Light Years Away and Lost On The B-Side. I spent March and April this year in New York playing in clubs with a full band and getting to know the place and playing some great gigs and getting very pleasing reviews.

SARAH GLEESON BALCONYTV.COM 7/08/2006
Sarah Gleeson began her musical voyage when she was 6 when her sister took her into Tower Records and shoved a Jane's Addiction CD in her hand and gave her the money to pay for it so that she could feel like a big girl. After that, she knew music was what she loved. Sarah started writing her own songs and playing live about 2 years ago, when in college, and she won the Whistler's Singer/Songwriter Competition in March 2005. They gave her a day in a recording studio as a prize, you can hear the results on her myspace.

ROGER GILLEN BALCONYTV.COM 6/10/2006
In Rogers own words - I grew up in the Hazelwood, in Co. Sligo.
On a perfect spring morning in 1980, I auditioned for The National Talent Search of Ireland. What happens next becomes my own piece of history as I ended up winning the talent search. On a Saturday night in April 1981, the final was broadcast on Gay Byrne's Late Late Show. After a stint with Maureen Potter at the Gaeity Theater in Dublin and a pantomime at the Cork Opera House, I was bound for America.
I met Mignon, a dancer from New Orleans. It was 1986 when we married and packed up the trunk again for the "Big Apple".
I took any job I could while playing the round of open-mike nights in Greenwich Village. After landing an agent I toured the college circuit in the 90's and managed to get myself reviewed as Rookie of the Year in Rolling Stone Magazine.
Then in January, 1993, our first son Michael arrived. But Michael's time with us was to be short and when he passed away we were broken-hearted. And a year later, as if an angel coming to heal our pain, Daniel was born. But when Daniel was only four weeks old we learned that this little angel was blind.
Thankfully, in this world of contradictions, something called "Grace" took us by the hand and led us along.
So I learned that the most precious thing we can offer each other is our true selves. And once I started I didn't stop until I was performing a show called Love's Pure Light on an Off-Broadway Stage. With musicians and dancers from places as far away as Cameroon, Brazil and Puerto Rico, Loves Pure Light was a breath of joy.
And so, here I am at the end of 2006, with a sense that "anything is possible" again. I have Mignon, Daniel, and now Gabriel too. A family in New York and Ireland, a circle of friends and teachers who continue to believe in me.
Presented by Tom Millett
Loves Pure Light DVD goes on sale in stores throughout Ireland on October 20th.
And Roger appears on The Late Late Show on October 20th.
