Italian basketball player Marco Belinelli is definitely #1 and for sure, "Nellie-esque". Selected number 18th overall in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors. During his tenure at Dallas, Coach Don Nelson - considered one of the foremost innovators in the NBA - was well known for bringing imports from outside the US into the game. You GOT to respect this man.
Marco Belinelli, a 6-foot-5 guard from Bologna, played on the Warriors NBA Summer League team in Las Vegas and averaged 22.8 points and 2.5 assists in four games, shooting 43.5 percent and earning Summer League All-Star honors. HOW / WHY did he get drafted #18???
Belinelli looks like he's got pretty good size and has been active defensively. Like most Warriors' games, it's been guard-dominated so far. An interesting note: Pierre Pierce is matched up against former Warrior Anthony Roberson, who was cut in January for salary cap purposes.
A little background: Belinelli, 21, has already five years of experience as a European pro. He averaged 16.4 points on .544 shooting for for his club team this year, and 12.9 points on .438 shooting in Euroleague play.
Belinelli CAN help the Golden State Warriors. In my opinion, Belinelli will take MVP honors this coming season. Here is the lowdown on Marco Belinelli from his NBA Draft Profile:

Even more impressive is that he needs little time to get his shot off thanks to his ultra quick release ... Moves extremely well without the ball using an assortment of cuts and fakes to get open ... Works very well off of picks and screens where he is superb off the catch and shoot ... Possesses legit three point range ... Mechanically he does everything well no matter if he is off balance he always keeps his body fully squared ... Defensively he possesses great anticipation skills and quick hands which enable him to disrupt passing lanes ... Does not get intimidated by pressure situations nor when facing physical defenders ... Mid-range shooting has improved as he is starting to fuse this with his long range shooting and slashing ability .... Extremely coachable player who has a solid work ethic ... Athletically he shows solid leaping ability and quickness ... A great finisher in the open court ...
