Fletcher Capstan Tables
The expanding table shown here is the result of many years of development, but follows a line of history of more than one and a half centuries. This, the Fletcher Capstan Table, is the only table in the world with its unique properties.
It is a circular table which, when rotated at its outer perimeter, doubles its seating capacity, yet astonishingly remains truly circular.
The expansion leaves are stored within the table and, in just four seconds, smoothly and quickly emerge upon rotation, rising and radially expanding outwards as the entire top is turned through 30Ëš. Existing tables can seat six persons when small, and twelve or more when expanded, but there are other design possibilities.
All Capstan Tables are exclusively designed and built, and each one numbered. Careful consideration is always given to a table's location and components are made to the highest standards. Nautical tables are so constructed that they are able to resist a harsh marine environment to the point that they may be positioned permanently on an exposed deck.

What IS Capstan Drive? How a Tape Recorder Works
Have you ever heard the term "capstan drive" when looking at a vintage tape recorder and wondered, "What does THAT mean?"?
While Captain Kirk may have cruised the galaxy using warp drive, quality tape recorders cruise the musical galaxy using capstan drive!
All modern tape recorders (i.e. cassette recorders), and the quality vintage tape recorders use capstan drive to manage the tape movement because it is precise, constant and smooth, thus well suited for musical reproduction. "Rim Drive", used in budget tape recorders, does not have this constancy of motion, making musical reproduction on such machines impossible and unpleasant to hear!

The Mayfair FT-303 capstan drive portable reel-to-reel...
Yes, a classic! A LOT of work I did to fix this, I replaced all the electrylitic capacitors, but still didn't fix a weak amp. I replaced a bad transistor and it fixed the amp. I also replaced the belt, as it was LOOSE. I re-did a spring for the take-up reel idler and lubricated the spinning parts with 3-in-1 oil. DC bias on this one, but surprizingly good for DC bias and the S sounds normal.
