Massacre in Beijing's Tiananmen Square 天安門事件 (June 4, 1989)
http://archives.cbc.ca/IDC-1-73-2049-12823/politics_economy/china/clip9 The images are shocking. Armoured tanks plow into crowds of people, flames from burning buses light up the night sky, and bleeding bodies are rushed to hospital. For weeks student protesters in Beijing's Tiananmen Square have been demonstrating for political reform of China's communist government. A declaration of martial law has failed to quell the protests, and now the government has called in the military. Death is all around as the CBC's Tom Kennedy reports. The massacre begins shortly after midnight as tanks and armoured personnel carriers roll through the streets, crushing hastily erected barricades and into Tiananmen Square. After launching tear gas and using loudspeakers to order people to leave, the army starts shooting. But the protesters fight back, beating army officers or simply standing their ground. They form human walls around foreign press to make sure the story gets out to the world.

CBC reports on Canadian Government NAFTA lie
Last week, the Conservative Canadian government interfered in the Democratic primary process by lying to the world about Barack Obama's position on NAFTA. This CBC report reveals the Canadian government's lie, and how John McCain and Hillary Clinton repeated that lie in nearly identical language -- as though Hillary was running to be McCain's vice-president. It also covers the Canadian government's apology for its interference in American politics, after Stephen Harper's administration was rocked by the scandal.

CBC Marketplace - HDMI Cables
Now that high-definition TVs are really coming down in price, competition among electronics retailers is heating up. Stores no longer enjoy the huge margins they did back in the days of $50,000 plasma screens. Big TVs are not sources of big profits. Making up some of the difference is the art of "packing the deal." In short, this means adding high-profit extras on to the core purchase. It can mean extended warranties, or home installation, or service calls. Or it can mean expensive accessories such as cables. In this report, Erica Johnson takes a close look at the HDMI cable. This is the all-in-one cord that carries both sound and video into your HDTV, and you'll need one to get the best picture from your new setup. The most expensive model we found in-store was a Monster cable costing upwards of $250. We found a generic one online for just $12, including shipping. The test? To see whether the extra money was worth it. Just in case some of your fellow viewers are curious: How much did you pay to hook up your new HDTV?
