MEXICO CITY - Mexican Air Force pilots filmed 11 unidentified flying objects in the skies over southern Campeche state, a Defense Department spokesman confirmed Tuesday.
A videotape made widely available to the news media on Tuesday shows the bright objects, some sharp points of light and others like large headlights, moving rapidly in what appears to be a late-evening sky.
The lights were filmed on March 5 by pilots using infrared equipment. They appeared to be flying at an altitude of about 3,500 meters (11,480 feet), and allegedly surrounded the Air Force jet as it conducted routine anti-drug trafficking vigilance in Campeche. Only three of the objects showed up on the plane's radar.
'Was I afraid? Yes. A little afraid because we were facing something that had never happened before,' said radar operator Lt. German Marin in a taped interview made public Tuesday.
'I couldn't say what it was ... but I think they're completely real,' added Lt. Mario Adrian Vazquez, the infrared equipment operator. Vazquez insisted that there was no way to alter the recorded images.
The plane's captain, Maj. Magdaleno Castanon, said the military jets chased the lights 'and I believe they could feel we were pursuing them.'
When the jets stopped following the objects, they disappeared, he said.
A Defense Department spokesman confirmed Tuesday that the videotape was filmed by members of the Mexican Air Force. The spokesman declined to comment further and spoke on customary condition of anonymity.
The video was first aired on national television Monday night then again at a news conference Tuesday by Jaime Maussan, a Mexican investigator who has dedicated the past 10 years to studying UFOs.
'This is historic news,' Maussan told reporters. 'Hundreds of videos (of UFOs) exist, but none had the backing of the armed forces of any country. ... The armed forces don't perpetuate frauds.'
Maussan said Secretary of Defense Gen. Ricardo Vega Garcia gave him the video on April 22. --

Ed Mitchell Apollo 14 on Kerrang - UFOs Are Real (JFK)
Disclosure by Edgar Mitchell in the radio interview on Kerrang Radio, 23 July 2008: Edgar Mitchell says there is life in the Universe. He says we have been visited, and that UFOs have been covered up by the government for a long time. The host almost has a stroke during the interview he's so shocked. Edgar says it is a real phenomena. He says he's been inside military circles and they know we've been visited and talk about it behind closed doors. He says he's been involved in certain research committees and knows people who know the real story. There is quite a bit of contact going on. The Roswell crash was real: Doesn't know if Disclosure will be this year 2008?
Edgar Mitchell, D.Sc. is an American pilot and astronaut. As the lunar module pilot of Apollo 14, he spent nine hours of February 9, 1971 moonwalking on the Fra Mauro formation, making him the sixth man to walk on the Moon.
Ed Mitchell obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial management from Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1952. While in the Navy he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautical engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and a Doctor of Science degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Ed Mitchell was awarded honorary doctorates from the New Mexico State University, the University of Akron, Carnegie Mellon University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Mitchell has publicly expressed his opinions that he is "90 per cent sure that many of the thousands of unidentified flying objects, or UFOs, recorded since the 1940s, belong to visitors from other planets" and that UFOs have been the "subject of disinformation in order to deflect attention and to create confusion so the truth doesn't come out". Dateline NBC had an interview with Mitchell on April 19, 1996, during which he discussed meeting with officials from three countries who claimed to have had personal encounters with extraterrestrials. He offered his opinion that the evidence for such "alien" contact was "very strong" and "classified" by governments, who were covering up visitations and the existence of alien beings' bodies in places such as Roswell, New Mexico. He further claimed that UFOs had provided "sonic engineering secrets" that were helpful to the U.S. government. Mitchell's book, The Way of the Explorer, discusses his journey into mysticism and space.
In 2004 he told the St. Petersburg Times that a "cabal of insiders" inside the US Government were studying recovered alien bodies, and that this group had stopped briefing US Presidents after John F. Kennedy. He has said, that "We all know that UFOs are real, now the question is, where they come from".

Für technisch fortgeschrittene Zivilisation wäre das wohl möglich. Die Außerirdischen könnten sogar schon hier sein - nur geben sie sich nicht zu erkennen.
Die Frage stellte sich, wenngleich in abgewandelter Form, bereits der italienische Kernphysiker Enrico Fermi. Er setzte im Dezember 1942 in Chicago die erste kontrollierte nukleare Kettenreaktion in Gang und arbeitete später am „Manhattan-Projekt" mit. Unter diesem Decknamen entwickelten U.S. Wissenschaftler im Forschungslabor von Los Alamos die Atombombe. Fermi beschäftigte sich mit einer der grundlegendsten Fragen der Menschheit: „Sind wir die einzige technische Zivilisation im Universum?"
Wo sind die Außerirdischen?
Bei der Suche nach einer Antwort stellte er folgende Überlegung an: Gäbe es in der Milchstraße auch nur eine einzige Rasse, welche die interstellare Raumfahrt
beherrscht, dann könnte sie die gesamte Galaxis innerhalb von 20 bis 40 Millionen Jahren durchfliegen und dabei alle bewohnbaren Planeten ansteuern
und kolonisieren (dies würde mit Unterlichtgeschwindigkeit geschehen). Folglich
sollte es außerirdische Zivilisationen in unserer galaktischen Nachbarschaft in großer Zahl geben. Doch bisher fand sich noch kein Hinweis auf ihre Existenz.
