台灣第一棟洋樓：二級古蹟打狗英國領事館，位於高雄市蓮海路20號(中山大學大門口右側山頂上)，建於1865年，迄今已有142年歷史。2004年高雄市政府文化局公開徵選優良廠商來整修殘破的二級古蹟打狗英國領事館，並在修復後繼續經營管理。歷經兩次流標，終由國內知名觀光飯店"高雄漢王洲際飯店"團隊取得整修營運權，並於同年5月20日，辦理移交簽約典禮。
打狗英國領事館的地理位置特殊，座落在海天一色的西子灣山上，坐靠打鼓山、前扼高雄港進出之大船、右看西子灣日落、左抱高雄市港全景，當時英國選擇此處興建本館有其歷史、政治、控管南台灣的命脈意圖，尤其當時沒有雷達，只得靠駐衛官，清點船隻以利到本館充分繳稅。打狗英國領事館成功的結合西方設計與東方巧藝之建築，為台灣第一棟洋樓，1865年英商天利洋行建造，由英國人設計、採用歐洲新文藝復興風格、以維多利亞式時代之洋樓造型建造而成。打狗(台語發音)二字，自1624年起經荷、鄭、清、日，日本人於1920年將『打狗』改寫為『高雄』，在1945年起就改叫高雄。
營業項目：藝術、文化、古蹟、會議、英式午茶、晚茶、套餐、咖啡。參觀時間：09：00~24：00，餐飲時間：11：00~24：00，全年無休。領事館的套餐供應時間分別為午餐11點至下午2點、晚餐5點半至9點，每份380元不加收10%服務費(紅酒菌菇牛膝套餐420元)，餐後又送上該館榜首的領事水果茶或玫瑰人蔘茶或打狗戀咖啡。特別推薦最具特色的三層架餐點：鑑於夜間來館顧客的需求，即三美三低，美味美觀美景、低脂低油低熱量的概念，開始將傳統英式午茶風格的三層架茶點變革，進而推展出英皇三層架晚茶﹝第一層海陸總匯沙拉、第二層手工里肌酥皮卷、第三層盛夏節令水果、低脂蛋糕等點心﹞，專供晚間9點半以後至12點的顧客享用，每套320元。英式女王午茶﹝第一層：精緻糕點＋手工餅乾、第二層：主廚獨門料理、第三層：時令鮮果拼盤﹞供餐時段：每日14:00~17:30，價格：320元/套，不加收10％服務費。

Istanbul rocked by US consulate attack - 09 Jul 08
Six people have been killed in a shootout at the US consulate in the Turkish city of Istanbul.
Three police officers and three gunmen died in the assault, while a fourth gunman escaped.
The US secretary of state has voiced deep regrets over the loss of life, while the US ambassador to Turkey says the incident was an obvious act of terrorism.
