Wuala - a distributed file system

ABSTRACT
After three years of research and development on a distributed storage system, we are ready to unveil the result: Wuala. Wuala is a new way of storing, sharing, and publishing files on the internet. Unlike traditional online storage systems, Wuala is decentralized and can harness idle resources of participating computers to build a large, secure, and reliable online storage. This enables its users to trade parts of their local storage for online storage and it allows us to provide a better service for free. In the talk, I will explain what Wuala is and how it works, and I will also show a demo. All attendees will also get an invitation code to join the early alpha version.

Dryad: A general-purpose distributed execution platform

ABSTRACT
Web search has generated the need and economic support for a new class of data-intensive supercomputing applications. Several computing platforms have been created to support this need: the first described in the literature is Google's MapReduce. I will describe the architecture of the Dryad system developed at Microsoft Research, and explain some of our design choices. Dryad allows more general computations than MapReduce, and has consequently been used as a middleware abstraction on which higher-level programming models can be implemented. I will also briefly discuss some of these.

Michael Isard started out as a computer vision researcher, but has gradually been lured into systems research by his colleagues, first at DEC/Compaq SRC and now at Microsoft Research Silicon Valley. He was closely involved in the design and implementation of the first version of Microsoft's in-house search engine, and his systems research subsequently has concentrated on programming models for parallel and distributed computing.

Testing Distributed Systems with AJAX, XML - Lessons Learned from Google Checkout

Google Checkout is a good example of a distributed system involving several websites, the end user experience being powered by Ajax interactions, synchronous and asynchronous web services. Automating functional testing for that kind of architecture is a challenge. In this session we will provide an overview of the Google Checkout product and API, then present Mendoza, an open source testing framework that we use for functional testing of Checkout API integrations, using Selenium and a java test server. Mendoza has been designed in a generic way and can be leveraged to perform functional testing of any distributed system of similar architecture.

ZERO/SPORTS has set up Electric Vehicle R&D Department in 1998 with a vision for the future of automotive industry. In December of 2000, ZERO/SPORTS electric formula car achieved the second fastest record of 276.6km/h (the national record in Japan), only after GM's record of 293km/h.
In September 2003, ZERO/SPORTS released Elexceed RS, one-seater electric vehicle, and became the 17th largest auto maker in Japan, recognized by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. ABSTRACT
LH*RSP2P is a Scalable Distributed Data Structure (SDDS) designed for P2P applications. It manipulate data on SDDS peer nodes, i.e., where each node is both an SDDS client and, actually or potentially, an SDDS server. The latter stores application or parity data, or both. The scheme reuses the addressing and parity management principles of LH*RS. The main result is that LH*RSP2P key-based addressing requires at most one forwarding message. In this sense, this makes LH*RSP2, the fastest structured P2P addressing scheme known at present, likely the fastest ever possible for an SDDS.
