Installing Moodle with Webmin (unix / mac)
This video covers installing Moodle 1.5.4+ on a Unix system using Webmin. This video assumes you already have installed a webserver (such as apache), PHP, MySQL and Webmin on your machine.
The recording took place on an Intel iMac but the sequence would be pretty much identical for a Linux, Solaris or similar Unix based machine. Obviously there may be slight variations such as you may have set up your website in a different path or you may wish to set your databases up differently and so on. The keen eyed amongst you may notice an edit point when I was changing the owner and group on the moodle folder. The rest of the video is pretty much as it happened.

Did you know you can download an all-in-one Windows package of Moodle? This is great if you just wish to explore Moodle on your laptop, home PC or across a trusted network.
This video takes you through installing the 1.5.4+ Windows package on to your home computer. You will see how simple it is to install and you could have Moodle up and running on your network in less than 5 minutes. Please note that this video accepts the default settings during the installation procedure and as a result the MySQL database is not password protected. Please see the readme file when you download the Installation Package zip from http://moodle.org/ for the server configuration options.

Upgrading Moodle to 1.6+
The first 2 videos deliberately installed the older 1.5.4+ code. Here I am going to show you how to upgrade from 1.5.4+ to Moodle 1.6+.
You will see how to check the environmental settings for future Moodle versions, which Moodle file to download, how to install the latest Moodle code and also how to update the installed languages Moodle to unicode. The method shown is probably the most common way to upgrade Moodle and requires admin access to your Moodle site and also FTP access to wherever the Moodle files live.
Before you go through the upgrade process you will need to check if any 3rd party modules, blocks, themes or other add-ons will work with the new Moodle version. In the video it isn't clear that you have to wait until all of the old files have been replaced before you log in as admin to trigger the upgrade. It may also be a good idea for you to read the Moodle installation messages rather than skipping through them like I did.

Importing Free Courses into Moodle
There are always lots of comparisons between commercial systems and open source systems with many people keen to point out that you should be looking at the total cost of ownership when comparing the two. The biggest expense for any VLE will not be the software, the server, nor the people you pay to come out and install it. The single biggest cost will be the time that teachers spend creating their courses, regardless of which system you choose.
Many teachers have told me the single most frustrating thing about Moodle is knowing what to do with it once it has been installed. What does a course look like? ? What should go in a course? How can it be used? What is the difference between a resource and an activity? Of course there is the superb Moodle documentation wiki and the excellent forums at http://moodle.org/ but most people just want to get stuck straight in and see what Moodle can do for them and their kids.
You can substantially reduce the time spent creating content and learning about Moodle by using or modifying existing Moodle courses that can be freely downloaded.
This video will show you how to download a free course from http://e-subjects.co.uk/ and import it in to you own Moodle installation. You will also see how to create categories and move imported courses to the desired place.

-Hipnose é um estado diferenciado de consciência, alterado em comparação com os estados ordinários de vigÃlia e de sono, com elevada receptividade à sugestão por parte da pessoa que nele ingressa, por si mesma ou com intervenção de outra pessoa ou equipamento.
O termo "hipnose" (grego hipnos = sono + latim osis = ação ou processo) deve o seu nome ao médico e pesquisador britânico James Braid (1795-1860), que o introduziu pois acreditou tratar-se de uma espécie de sono induzido. (Hipnos era também o nome do deus grego do sono). Quando tal equÃvoco foi reconhecido, o termo já estava consagrado, e permaneceu nos usos cientÃfico e popular.
Contudo, deve ficar claro que hipnose não é uma espécie ou forma de sono. Os dois estados de consciência são claramente distintos e a tecnologia moderna pode comprová-lo de inúmeras formas, inclusive pelos achados eletroencefalógráficos de ambos, que mostram ondas cerebrais de formas, freqüências e padrões distintos para cada caso. O estado hipnótico é também chamado transe hipnótico.

The technique is used for medical purposes to relieve anxiety or otherwise improve or alter behavior. It is also used in popular stage acts in which subjects are persuaded to perform bizarre feats.
Other variations include mass-hypnosis, in which crowds are simultaneously influenced, and autosuggestion in which a subject persuades themself.

GERALD LEVERT :: Doug E. Fresh, Patti LaBelle : Tribute
(BlackPressMagazine.com) - Patti LaBelle and rap icon Doug E. Fresh remember the late Gerald Levert. This is part two of three part tribute from BlackPressRadio.com.
Gerald LeVert, a native of Cleveland, OH, died on November 10, 2006 of a heart attack believed to have been caused by an accidential reaction to medication he was taking. He was 40.
"I feel so honored to have met Gerald LeVert and interviewed him on a few occasions at the various BET Walk of Fame events. Like every other female journalist, he mesmerized me with his swagger and talent," said DC Livers, managing editor for the Historical Black Press Foundation. "I often couldn't believe how down-to-earth, approachable and real he was. Sure, he battled his own demons just like the rest of us, but he was one of the most sincere celebrities I ever met and interviewed. The Black community has lost a true American icon. He was an incredible songwriter and he will definately be sorely missed."
His record label, Atlantic Records, described him in a statement as an "exceptional human being."
"All of us at Atlantic are shocked and deeply saddened by his untimely death," the statement said. "[He] sang with unmatched soulfulness and power. Gerald has been a member of our family for two decades, both with the group LeVert and as a solo artist, and he will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure and privilege of working with him through the years."
Sylvia Rhone, who headed Elektra Entertainment during LeVert's tenure there, said she is "stunned and deeply saddened by the news."
"He was a brother to me; a trusted confidante, a loyal friend, a real soulmate," she said. "But most importantly, he was a loving son and father who blessed us all with his indelible musical presence and leaves us with so many wonderful lifelong memories."
LeVert, who had music is in his blood, was best known for his sultry voice and big, teddy bear image.
From his penetration into the business with the 1985 release of Casanova with the late 80's trio LeVert - one could see that Gerald was a singer with talent, but it wouldn't be until his 1991 debut release "Private Line" that R&B fans would gain a prolific view of the soulful skills of Gerald LeVert.
Since then, the Grammy-nominated crooner has delved his works into numerous projects all depicting a strong sound and at times outspoken lyrics. He's honed his skills and collaborated on several projects some of which have contributed to works of Teddy Pendergrass, Patti LaBelle and The Winans In 1996, he celebrated the multi-platinum success of "My Body," a sensual single formed from the collaboration with fellow R&B songsters Keith Sweat and Johnny Gill.
Rhino Records released Levert's Voices, the premiere soul group of the late '80s and early 90s, Gerald was the driving force behind a host of Top 10 hits. This
single-disc set is his first-ever duets collection, which features three brand-new recordings as well as old hits. Highlights include tracks with Mary J. Blige, Kelly Price, Faith Evans, Missy Elliott, and
others.
Gerald has always strived to improve himself as a singer and writer and with his latest release nothing as been short changed. The artist prides himself on growing as an artist through the years - and with his latest project he offers the public a more prolific voice as he touches on real-life subjects rarely addressed with candor by those in the entertainment industry.
With the approaching end of his latest tour - also divvied with his father O' Jays crooner Eddie LeVert, one can only wonder what latest surprise Gerald has in store for fans. In due time, its certain this endowed vocalist will shower airwaves again with his inner most thoughts - and no doubt, all ears will be listening.
