Gandalf vs. Balrog Full & Uncut
The famous line is "Fly, you fools!" Argument closed.
I edited together all the parts of Gandalf's battle with the Balrog to create this complete version.
A few things about this fight, Gandalf, and the Balrog:
Surprisingly enough, the Balrog and Gandalf are of the same race of creature, Maiar. While yes, Gandalf is one of the 5 Istari (Wizards) sent to Middle-earth to challenge Sauron, and the Balrog is one of the Valaurakar, one of many such servants of Morgoth, the first Dark Lord of whom Sauron was a servant, their origins are the same. It is certainly possible that they were of even strength in this fight, as Gandalf himself admits in the book "I have met my match." There also seems to be some confusion about how the Balrog and Gandalf suddenly went from a pit to the top of a mountain. This battle actually stretched out over a much longer amount of time, days in fact, and what was cut out of the movie was that after the Balrog and Gandalf plunged into the water, the Balrog emerged as a slime monster, and was forced to flee from Gandalf up Durin's Stair until he could reignite again at the top of the Misty Mountains.
