Wednesday morning, 07/12/2006, on their the last day of their service, Udi Goldwasser and Eldad Regev packed their things and prepared to go home immediately after their last patrol.
At 09:05 Hezbollah heavily bombarded the whole region as a diversion for the planned kidnapping of the soldiers. At this point their Humvees were in a passage in a wadi, when they were suddenly attacked by a group of Hezbollah terrorists. Under cover of the firing, Udi and Eldad were kidnapped and taken to Lebanese soil. It is unknown whether they managed to climb out of the vehicle before they were kidnapped. Nor is it known how hurt they were. Footsteps, bloodstains and a hole in the fence were found at the scene.
Immediately after the incident the first attempt was made to locate Udi and Eldad. Four additional soldiers were killed during this attempt. This chain of events led to the beginning of the fighting in the north in the summer of 2006.
No information has been received as to the welfare of Udi and Eldad.
Several weeks earlier on Sunday, 06/25/2006, at 05:40 in the morning, a terrorist group of several Palestinians crossed the border south of the Gaza Strip into Israel through a tunnel near Kerem Shalom and attacked an army facility that was within the sovereign territory of Israel kidnapping Gilad Schalit, taking him to the Gaza Strip.
Aside from an audio recording released nearly a year later there has been no information as to Gilad's welfare.

Will Eldad Regev & Ehud Goldwasser Finally Return Home, Repo
Zvi Regev, the father of captured IDF reservist Eldad Regev confirmed on Monday that Ofer Dekel, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's point man on the prisoner issue with Hizbullah informed the familes of IDF reservists Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev that a prisoner swap deal with Hizbullah is in the making. The media reports claim the exchange could take place on Friday and at the latest on Sunday. The London-based newspaper A-Sharq al-Awsat said the swap will be carried out in the next few days. Hizbullah has neither confirmed or denied the reports.Regev and Goldwasser were taken captive by Hizbullah on July 12, 2006 as they patrolled the northern border with Lebanon.06/16/08

Tsahal solidaire des familles Regev et Goldwasser

Goldwasser & Regev Families Demand Proof That Their Sons Are
After hours of deliberation the Cabinet voted to go ahead with the prisoner deal with Hizbullah, with 22 ministers voting for the decision and three ministers opposing the exchange. During the meeting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert informed the cabinet ministers that the two IDF reservists Eldad Regev and Udi Goldwasser are no longer alive, and were killed either during the kidnapping or shortly after. In response to Olmert's declarations that the two reservists are no longer alive, the families of Goldwasser and Regev declared that Olmert's assumptions were based on half truths and demanded to be given solid proof to back the statements if they are indeed true.06/29/08
