Al Jazeera Hindraf Protest Rally - 25 Nov 2007
It was a day to remember for all Indians (except the MIC crowd) in Malaysia when despite dire warnings from Police, the use of an unprecedented court restraining order, the many roadblocks as early as Thursday and the arrest and release of the Hindraf leaders to restrain and frighten them, the dissatisfied and marginalized Indians came by the thousands to Ampang Park, Wisma MCA and KLCC as the gathering points for the rally. Some were seen walking in single file to avoid detection into the designated points. But there were reports a few thousands also gathered at the Batu Caves temple area as a show of support for those present in the KLCC/Ampang areas.
They were allowed to gather & assemble and demonstrate but no further. This time, the Police did not compromise. The moment they started to make a move and marched towards the British High Commission, volleys of tear gas were fired at them in order to deter them from doing so.
The only choice for these peaceful protesters were to retreat and regroup and it became a running battle in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the landmark of the Petronas Twin Towers. When the tear gas canisters were aimed at the demonstrators, some were picked up and thrown back at the Police. And these took place for several hours before the crowd realizing that they were not able to submit the petition dispersed peacefully just before noon.
The IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan who was interviewed by Al Jazeera News on the 4.00 pm news had the audacity to said that they were no leaders there to submit the petition
ALJazeera: Your officers were fairly effective in driving the protesters away from the British High Commission, do you think that had they been allowed to hand over the petition at the High C, this would have ended peacefully without any disturbance?
IGP: Well first of all we allowed it; but of course they got no leaders with them' So we don't know who wants to hand over the memorandum. And by the end of it the, leaders came, but later on they did not even hand over the memorandum to the British High Commission.
MALAYSIAN police used tear gas and water cannon on Sunday to quell a street protest by more than 10,000 ethnic Indians complaining of government discrimination against their community. It was the second crackdown this month on a demonstration critical of the government, as speculation grows that Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will soon call early elections. Sunday's rally was the biggest by ethnic Indians in 20 years.
Thousands flocked to the gathering in central Kuala Lumpur called by a Hindu rights group despite threats of arrest and four days of road blocks that have put the city into virtual lockdown. At least one policeman was injured when protesters wielding crash helmets as weapons clashed with riot police, one officer said. Organisers said 400 were arrested and 19 injured. Police said they had no official figures as yet. Police prevented protesters from marching to the British embassy, where they had planned to ask the former colonial ruler to indemnify Indians for bringing them to Malaya as indentured labour more than a century ago. But the rally sent Mr Abdullah a clear message. 'We are here for our rights,' one protester said.
'The British brought our forefathers here 150 years ago. Whatever the government is supposed to give us, to look after our welfare, well, they have failed.'

Hindraf rally protest in KLCC 25-Nov 2007 - Ntv8 news report
Hindraf - Hindu Rights Action Force
This is history being record in Malaysia, this is a first time for Indian in Malaysia, such a big crowed Indian(Hindraf)at KLCC. The land became sea of dark, uncountable people. Something is smell not right here with gov, same as Al-Jazeera. Why Hindraf go on with rally?
Is a very peaceful Sunday rally, most of them sitting, no racial tension, no break the law, nothing happen, no roit or anything. The gov had refused to issue a permit many times. While the gov claim the Indian protester as Gangster.
Many as many Hindraf turn-up gather as early as 1.00am in KLCC. To voice up equal rights for indians. Is a controlled crow with many-many guided leader from around the city KL. Until 6.00am morning gov instruct FRU police fire a ......Pain and itcy Super Weapon.... The crow split. This is what happen.
Malaysia Gov know what is going to happen, they try to prevent those crow of Indian from getting support. In the early as 6am morning in KLCC, the police and the FRU police have being shooting tear gas and spry Chemical water at the crow.
So far I got to know 2 of the Older Hindu Temple (Sri Maha Mariammam Temple), almost 153 years history, have been demolish and the local Gov have turn to deaf ear. (This is always happen in Malaysia) They themselves(gov) think of this, is a small matter and always tell people don't break the law. While gov keep breaking the law, no body being ask, why?
To my latest news, more and more hindu and indian temples have being demolist. Sri Maha Mariamman(45yrars old) Temple, Kampung Rimba Jaya, Padang Jawa, Shah Alam.
Sri Kaliamman Temple(100years old)(demolist 9-5-06), Shah Alam.
Sri Kumaravel Temple demolist and built new replacement next to Indah Water Sewerage pond, TNB electric sub station just at back of temple and High voltage tension cable passing above. Why?? It's this the gov plan?
Sri Balakrishnan Muniswarer (demolist 8-6-06), Setapak.
Are those of many tample have being demolist by state gov. why??? Are they againts Indian?
Malaysian is a multi-racial country. Majority work with the gov from top to the below are malay. They should understand the unity among Indians. State Gov should built the new temple first before demolist the old one.
Although I am not a religious person, I am chinese, it's emotion for me to see this.
How long people will stay with the law, if the gov keep going on. People are unhappy with it, the fire grow bigger and bigger. You tell every Malaysian, everyone have the right to speak up but you turn to deaf ear. That spark the rally protest, today in KLCC.
This also happen to one of our Chinese minister Datuk Tan CH. (He say if you think I couldn't help you, you should look for other people for help.) Why should they look for you, because there is a problem, they need your help.
People elected you up to be minister to help the people in return, if you couldn't did your job, better be step down and let the new younger generation to be the minister.
The most surprising me when I got to know one of the Indian Family in 2nd day, the whole family is joining the rally. Herself, husband, sons, brothers, sister, father, mother, grandpa and grandmum joining the rally as early as 1am in KLCC. They say they are very unhappy with gov now. Nothing have much done with gov. They couldn't wait for another 50 years come. They say they want to go there for their support, if die, die for the country, not for the gov.
Coming soon, Chinese rally, the Chinese biggest pig farmer close down by gov. (Actual the gov hate of Chinese pig farmer, they wanna Malaysia to be recognize as no.1 halal hub in the world)
Why the new economic policy still continue to protect the interest of Malays, for how long? Another 50 years again. We are still asking ourself, are we a Malaysian. Without Indian in Malaya time(1957), there is no road, water pipe and electric in Malaysia.
Many Indian still remain the poorer in Malaysia but very hard working. There is still imbalance in gov policy. Many of the minister claim and insist the Sunday rally is a racial problem.
240 people were being arrested at KLCC. 105 were released later and 136 were still being detained
