Yes, for the 2nd time 21stCenturyCat attempts a Vlog! There were loads of things I wanted to say in this video but I either ran out of time or just forgot. I keep underestimating the effort it must take to do a good vlog...

Can't Vlog, Won't Vlog: A Response to johnreagannumber1
21stCenturyCat 'attempts' to respond to johnreagannumber1's "Compressing Your Life Away" video with a Vlog!? Perhaps I should just stick to what I know...
Background: In the original "Compressing Your Life Away" video John talked about (amongst other things) the frustrations he has with the vast amount of hard drive space taken up by raw video footage, and the wasted time he spends compressing the footage to save a bit of space.
Apologies John, this video fails to answer many of the points you raised in your video so just for you (I suspect very few other people will read it) a more thorough text response is below.
Unabridged answer
1. I have my YouTube settings set to default to always watch 'High Quality' videos when available
2. When I used to upload videos onto my PC 4GB in AVI. format would equal approximately 20 minutes of footage
3. When the raw footage has been edited I always export a high quality version of the finished video and then delete the raw footage.
4. The exported high quality version seems to have the same GB:Minute ratio
5. This means that editing the raw footage saves me very little hard drive space.
6. Unfortunately when editing I use about 95% of the footage filmed (excluding this video!) because when filming Cat & Funny videos we have only ever done 2 takes once. (This event was referenced the one time we did this, anyone know when?)
7. I have 3 external hard drives.
8. I bought the 3rd when I realised that although I had backed up videos on my other 2 external hard drives, they were in fact the only copies I had because I had deleted the originals on my PC to free up space.
9. My MAC came with a 500GB hard drive, after less than 2 months I am down to to 90GB!
10. On the MAC 2GB in .MOV equals 2 minutes of footage... hold on?! That can't be right! Thanks John, I think I realise now where my MAC hard drive space has gone (I'd never looked at this before now), the large file size is probably due to the fact I'm importing using my Hi-Def Camcorder 1440 x 1080!
11. Using the MAC I upload MPEG-4 files to Youtube at 640x480, video format H.264, 1350 KBS. I've given up trying to improve on this but still find some of my indoor videos are pixelated on YouTube. This video pre-upload was 81MB and my green t-shirt is pixelated (although this was filmed using the iMAC iSight so perhaps that is the reason).
11. If I'd listed everything I wanted to say like this in the 1st place perhaps this video would have been a proper response that actually responded to the issues raised in the original video! Hindsight is such a wonderful thing... ;0)

13. Compressing videos doesn't take my life away but making them does! I got home from work at 7PM, started filming this at 8PM with it currently uploading while I write this at 12:10AM. I've just realised that I forgot to turn the TV on and have been sat in silence for 5 hours,

Abridged answer:
1. You're not the only one that wants to keep raw files although I do not actually compress files to save space. But perhaps from what I've learnt tonight I should, I had not idea the MAC .MOV files were so large.

I sing my version of 'Something' by The Beatles. Sorry you can't hear the music-it's playing in my head (and I'm off the beat once or twice!). I have a constant internal soundtrack, who needs MP3 players when you have the music constantly playing in your head-unless you have something like 'Saturday Night' stuck on repeat and you need to blast it out lol!
I think most people know I'm not a great Beatles fan. I like some of their music, but I think it's over-rated, I can't stand John Lennon and Paul McCartney just needs a good slapping! But I do like some of their songs, this is one I like (Ringo and George were/are the best Beatles ;) )
