Mattel Tommy Burst TV commercial 1960s!
Rare early 60s tv commercial for Mattel's Tommy Burst submachine gun detective set. A Tommy Burst in excellent condition will bring at least $200 on eBay. This was my favorite toy of all time. Load in some fresh caps, pull the bolt back, and it made a God-awful noise as it produced a small cloud of smoke around the barrel tip. It was fantastic!!!

2008 NYC Toy Fair - World of Mattel
At the 2008 Toy Fair in New York City, Mattel presented a wide array of playthings for children based on their four "toy trends" for 2008. The "toy trends" are toys that connect to the internet; toys that utilize technology to enrich role-playing and inspire imagination; toys that create and provide learning experiences; toys utilizing technology for realistic, life-like features and extreme interactive fun.
From a stunningly realistic "Elmo Live" (walking, talking, singing and telling jokes), to kid-magnets Dora The Explorer and Diego, the 2008 Toy Fair offered children, and their adults, the beautiful and exciting flights of imagination that people have come to expect from Mattel.
For Mattel, the message is clear: to learn while having fun. To that end, Mattel's 2008 products offer interactive-learning, in both English and Spanish. But shh! Don't tell the kids that they may actually be learning something even as they play.

Mattel Lead Recall
Mattel had to recall almost one million of its Fischer Price toys, including Dora the Explorer and Tickle-me Elmo. They we had lead paint on 'em. Can you blame 'em? Lead is yummy.

Mattel recalls 1.5 million toys
Aug. 2 - A major US toy maker is recalling 1.5 million Chinese-made toys because of high levels of lead in the paint. The recalled toys made for Mattel's Fisher-Price range include popular pre-school characters like Elmo and Big Bird along with dozens of other items. The recall comes amid heightened concern worldwide about the safety of China's exports. Mattel said it had isolated two-thirds of the affected toys before they reached the shelves. In the United States, the Fisher-Price toys were sold nationwide between May and August. Customers who are worried are advised to go to Mattel's website for more information. Helen Long reports.
