video of the mexica movement was recently featured on FOX's program "hannity & colmes". the segment also contained an interview with self-proclaimed "documentarian" and "immigrationwatchdog," brook young. during the interview, mr. young told several bold-faced lies, among them that the mexica movement derives all its "beliefs" from mecha. mr. young goes so far as to say that he knows all of this because "oh yeah, they've told me."
what a joke. nowhere on the mexica movement website does it state that the movement's ideas are derived from, nor has any affiliation with mecha. in an excellently written article by manuel alderete, a brief history and theology of the movement is available for all to read, including an explanation of the group's "rejection of m.e.c.h.a. ideology." also clearly stated is the "rejection of aztlan ideology," and an explanation of anahuac liberation for the whole continent, not just a small area of the so-called "southwest." in addition to this, mr. young has had a history of distorting the mexica movement message. in a previous video, brook includes posters produced by the mexica movement in a "documentary" he created. in the film, mr. young altered and photoshoped the images to fit his agenda--including erasing the "mexica handbook" from an image of zapata and replacing it with a "mecha handbook." he also erased all copyright information from the posters, along with the website and phone number of the movement. what sort of documentarian creates material to fit his agenda? i personally contacted mr. young several times via email to object to his use of copyrighted materials, and demand their removal from his film, but so far the "watchdog" has remained silent. in my opinion, this sort of action totally undermines any and all credibility he may be trying to establish. if he is willing to falsify documents for this film, imagine what other lies and deceptions he is willing to utilize/tell.
finally, the anchors themselves misled the audience by calling this a "recent" protest. this particular protest occurred over a year ago in front of NBC studios in burbank, ca. the minutemen were there to protest NBC's decpiction of them as the backwoods racists they are. the mexica movement WAS THE ONLY organization that showed up to counter-protest the minutemen. apparently, members of mecha had more important things to do that day. for an eyewitness account of that protest, click here.
