Dark Tranquility "Monochromatic Stains"
Towards the end of the '90s, Scandinavian death metal -- or at least one branch of it -- began to evolve into a more accessible amalgamation of death-metal intensity, a bit of progressive-metal experimentation, and more traditional late-'70s/early-'80s British metal, with its catchy, groove-oriented riffs and twin-guitar lead lines. Although the style was hardly confined to one place, there was an especially fertile scene centered in the Swedish city of Gothenburg, and Dark Tranquillity was one of its most prominent practitioners.

Drawing from your imagination, life and other references create an illustration that illustrates your interpretation a city.
Media. (Acrylic on cold press illustration board) 15''x 20''
You may also incorporate dry media like colored pencil, or pastel.
The illustration board can be purchased down stairs in the art supply store.
Color -- limited pallet such as monochromatic, analogous or complementary.
Mono-chromatic:
Using any shade, tint, or tone of one color. (Black and white and one color)
Analogous:
3 to 5 colors next to each other on the color wheel.
Complementary -2 colors opposite of each other on the color wheel.
Things you must do
• You must have at least 3 people in your illustration.
• You must use your own reference photographs for at least one of the people in your illustration
• You must use your imagination as one of your references.
• One of your references must be from life.
• One of your references must be from a photograph or photographs
• Try having one light source, or at least one very dominant light source.
• Your cityscape must have an obvious foreground, middle ground and background.
• I want you to concentrate on atmospheric perspective.
• The foreground should have colors high in saturation; have high value contrast, and shard edges.
• The background should have colors low in saturation; have low value contrast, and soft edges.
• Your illustration must have depth. You can have a stylized, surreal drawing but it must look realistic.
Things you can do
• You can use toys as references
• You can sculpt your references from clay.
• You can create a surreal drawing.
• It can be very realistic in some places and stylized in other places.
• Limit your use of photographs for references (don't base your whole drawing on photos
