Ancients assumed that nature and the sky is inhabited and governed by magical powers, demons, and gods who looked back at them, who planned their lives, and who communicated with them. This belief in a living sky, a sort of empire of the heavens, was part of the "common coin" of thought in the Ancient Greek world, found in the civic cults of the Fertile Crescent, in mystery religions such as Mithraism, magical texts and philosophies, Hermetism, Stoicism, Gnosticism, and Middle and Neo Platonism. It was shared, with qualifications, by Jews and Christians as well, and, indeed, remained an important part of the medieval world-view, among Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike. Religions which know only one creator-god, like Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and many other religions like Hinduism, Zoroastrianism etc have their foundations on Astrology Christianity - For most of the Christians , the idea of roots of Christianity in Astrology cannot exist for them is a contradiction in terms. Yet Christianity begins with astrology's symbols already common in some currents of Judaism and flowed quite naturally into Christianity: with signs in the heavens, the visit of Wise Men or Magi (literally, astrologers) to the Christ child. "The star went before them until it stopped over the place where the child was." (Matt. 2:9b) The Bible itself states in its first chapter (Gen.1.14) that the lights in the heavens were put there as "signs" and signs exist to be interpreted. In his answer to Job, God asks him if he can "bring out the signs of the zodiac in their seasons" (Job 38.32). Hebrew -The origins of Hebrew in astrology are popularly attributed to Abraham or even Noah though it is more likely that it should be traced to the Jewish exile in Babylon. Possibly at that time the subject entered through the influence of biblical figures like Daniel, who had access to the pagan wisdom, or Ezekiel whose vision of the 4 creatures around the throne has profound relations to the astrology of the elements and the 4 fixed signs. "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years" (Genesis 1:14) God told the Israelites: "Let the children of Israel also keep the passover at his appointed season." (Numbers 9:2) How were they supposed to know when the "season" of Passover had come? By watching for the Full Moon. Islam - According to Islam, Astrology is the scientific study of stars for determining and fixing time division such as months and seasons and directions. In Islam of modern times, this is legally recognized because it is perceived by the senses and fixed calculations, which can help determine the times of prescribed prayers, and other religious duties that should be observed at certain times. "Allâh has informed us of His intended purpose for the stars: to guide mankind in the right path and to drive away evil satanic forces that might disrupt one' life in this world of ours." "And the Sun runneth on unto a resting place for him .That is the measuring of the mighty, the wise. And for the Moon, we have appointed mensions till she returns like an old shrivelled palm leaf. It is not for the sun to overtake the Moon, nor doth the nights outstrips the day. They float each in an orbit." (Surah X X X VI. verse 38,39,and 40). "He is who appointed the Sun a splendour and the Moon a light and measured for her stages that he might know the number of the years, and the reckoning. Allah has created not (all) that save in truth. We find that in the Quran, in several verses, Almighty has asked and encouraged mankind to look into and ponder over the objects of his creation, including the heaven, the stars and the Moon, in orders the understand his signs and thereby his supreme might, glory and greatness. Mention in regard to Astrology or the influence of planets and stars is found in the Quran in connection with Pharaoh, who was warned of the birth of Prophet Moses. As a consequence of the prediction by the court astrologers of King Namrood who Predicted birth of Prophet Ibrahim so much so that they predicted accurately the conception of Prophet Ibrahim in spite of the best efforts of the King Namrood to prevent it. Hinduism: It is a little known fact that the ancient maharishis from the Vedic era of India (c. 3000 B.C.) were also master astrologers. Parashara, considered the grandfather of modern Vedic Astrology, was the grandson of the Rishi Vasishta, and the father of Veda Vyasa, who compiled the Vedas, the Bhagavad Gita, and many other scriptures of the Vedic tradition. Throughout the centuries of India's long history, countless saints, scholars, and sages have studied and practiced the sacred science of astrology. when the natures were our gods
Sometimes modern people think of religion as merely a consoling dream or context that offers comfort to those undergoing emotional hardship. The original purpose for religion was much more broad than that. Some books that offer more insight into this are: "The Hymns of Orpheus" by Thomas Taylor "Theurgy and the Soul: The Neoplatonism of Iamblichus" by Gregory Shaw "In the Dark Places of Wisdom" and "Reality" by Peter Kingsley

The Numbers Song (c.1999)
The Video & Text The Numbers Song outlines the protagonist's relationship with the world of mathematics. The text is deliberately hyperbolic and performed in a melodramatic manner, in a kind of darkly humorous allusion to the roles of Vincent Price. There are various references to the Metaphysical poets and the doctrines of Neoplatonism, ironised as a kind of jazz ballad. The later French text is a mnemonic for the number Pi (if you count the letters in the words they equate with the sequence 3.1415926...) Computer animations are employed to display various types of platonic objects ungoing morphing and deformations applied in the abstract mathematical space of the computer. The Music The numbers song is as much about numbers as it is about the often insipid lyrics of jazz songs. Could you imagine Frank Sinatra singing about the philosophy of mathematics? In this respect the initial sequence of the song ironises conventional jazz singing prior to moving into a darker dodecaphony. The French mnemonic for the number Pi in this second serial part acted as a basis for constructing some of the tone rows. This segues into a harmonically free section that accompanies the spoken text.

PHILOSOPHY: Relearning the Forms
A Crash Course in Platonism First off, yes, I know the guitar isn't perfect. Like anything else in "reality", it isn't perfect, so learn to deal with it. As far as the text, I try and explain Platonism in 5 minutes... might be a lot to swallow. So take your time, watch this a few times, think up some questions and leave some comments.
