Nigerian politicians attack!
Sep. 21, 2007
Nigerian legislators trade punches and insults at a hearing into a 5 million (USD) spending spree by the speaker.
The spending spree by the speaker of the House of Representatives has caused a national scandal and paralysed the House. Speaker Patricia Etteh is under investigation by a committee of fellow members over allegations that she flouted House rules by approving contracts worth 5 million (USD) to renovate her residence and that of her deputy and to buy 12 cars.

Nigerian Accent
These are cut-scenes from LOST, season 3 episode 5 (The Cost of Living). Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and other Nigerian actors speak in a pretty Nigerian accent here. Listening to Nigerian people talking in English I got they pronounce the U or O [&] sound (like in FUNNY [f&-nE] or OTHER [&-[th]&r]) close to the O sound like in MORE [mor]. Is that right? Anyone got any clue about how to imitate a Nigerian accent? Video responses are welcome.

Monty Python's Dead Parrot sketch, scammer style!
This is a video created by a Nigerian email scammer who thinks he is producing a video for a scholarship payment from a victim he tried to scam. Unfortunately for this particular scammer, the "victim" fought back and created a fake video production company with promises of cash!
It has to be noted that the two people who appear in this video are probably not scammers themselves. More than likely they are amateur actors paid to do the work on the scammer's behalf. Even though their acting is petty shaky, they do seem to have had previous experience!

How to be nigerian
This page is dedicated to Nigerians.
How to be a Nigerian by Peter Enhaoro
Comes from a famous little book, which is one of the funniest to come out of Africa. First published in 1996, it continues to be in demand. The Nigerian author turns a humorous and ironic eye on his fellow compatriots. The book is descibed as a guide for Nigerians and expatriates on the conduct, deportment, comportment, bearing, deameanour, mien, carriage, actions, the misdoings, misconduct and misbehaviours of the Nigerian adult male and female. Sprinkled with anecdotes and cartoons, the book addresses the Nigerian essence.

More:
How to be a Nigerian is one of the more enduring challenges of our lives. The phrase raises questions about identity and national culture; it is about the interconnection between state and society. It is invariably also about survival. How truly can one be a Nigerian? To be a true Nigerian is to develop a sense of home and a feeling of belonging. But if a man is not a Nigerian at heart, does that make him a non-citizen?. If a citizen is not a Nigerian, in the sense of our intended construction, does that indicate a disconnect with the immediate environment? How to be a Nigerian is an important consideration because we live anyway, in rather challenging circumstances, which require greater creativity than may be needed elsewhere.

I Go Chop Your Dollars
October 21st, 2005
Did you know there is a Nigerian top hit named I Go Chop Your Dollar? It's hugely popular in Lagos, and hit the Lagos radio stations a few months ago as a CD penned by an artist called Osofia (his real name might or might not be Nkem Owoh.
It's as catchy as Nigerian music can be, and since it carries a message that thousands of young Nigerians seem to be able to relate to, it has become a huge hit in Lagos.
Here are the complete lyrics:
I Go Chop Your Dollar
I don suffer no be small
Upon say I get sense
Poverty no good at all, no
Na im make I join this business
419 no be thief, its just a game
Everybody dey play am
if anybody fall mugu, ha! my brother I go chop am
Chorus
National Airport na me get am
National Stadium na me build am
President na my sister brother
You be the mugu, I be the master
Oyinbo I go chop your dollar, I go take your money dissapear
419 is just a game, you are the loser I am the winner
The refinery na me get am,
The contract, na you I go give am
But you go pay me small money make I bring am

When Oyinbo play wayo, them go say na new style
When country man do im own, them go de shout bring am, kill am, die!

Tecmo Super Bowl - Christian "The Nigerian Nightmare" Okoye
TSB's Christian Okoye versus the Indianapolis Colts defense. One run, one quarter of play, 75 yards, and around 60 broken tackles.
When Okoye is in "Good" or "Excellent" condition, the Colts defense is incapable of tackling him without diving. If they simply run into Okoye, they'll bounce right off of him. This is because Okoye is the strongest runner in the game, and the Colts defenders tend to be very weak hitters.
Like Bo Jackson, Okoye had a stellar NFL career that was prematurely ended by an injury.
On a different note, congratulations to the real-life Colts for winning Super Bowl XLI.

Gay Nigerian Activist Davis Mac-Iyalla African
An Evening with Gay Nigerian Activist Mac-Iyalla
Hosted by Trinity Episcopal Cathedral June 27th, 2007.
Davis Mac-Iyalla, 35, is founder and director of the country's only gay-rights organization, Changing Attitude-Nigeria, which advocates for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in the Anglican Church and elsewhere in Nigeria.
The Episcopal Church is the American wing of the worldwide Anglican Communion, which includes 80 million members in 154 countries. In 2003, the Episcopal Church consecrated the Rev. V. Gene Robinson, the first openly gay bishop. Nigerian Archbishop Peter Akinola has been a leading critic against the ordination of gay bishops and the inclusion of GLBT persons in the life of the church.
Mac-Iyalla is a leading voice fighting a proposed bill in his country that would make it illegal for gays to organize, meet in public, or even visit a GLBT website. He has received numerous death threats for his activism, has been fired from his job as a school principal, and forced to live in exile in a neighboring country in West Africa. Prior to declaring his homosexuality, he was an active member of the Anglican Church of Nigeria.
In May 2007, he convened a meeting of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender activists from seven West African countries, for the first regional conference of its kind. His recent tour of the U.S. has taken him to 20 cities, and he has addressed the executive council of the Episcopal Church about the dangers faced by GLBT Nigerians.
