Manchester Pensioner Says Defend the NHS!
Manchester, England. 3rd May 2005. Joan Hibberd, chair of Trafford Pensioners, speaks about life before the state run National Health Service (NHS) came into being in 1948. She is speaking at a meeting of the anti-war party Respect in Stretford Civic Hall during the 2005 General election campaign.
The NHS is funded out of general taxation and no one is refused treatment because they are poor--except for failed asylum seekers who are refused secondary health care and currently the racist Brown government is now extending this outrageous policy to primary health also--family doctors.
Watch Michael Moore's film "SicKo" which contrast the UK National Health Service with the US system.
Alongside the state run NHS there is a growing private health sector for the wealthy. Over the past few decades, Thatcher, Blair and Brown have been attempting to run down the NHS by starving it of resources in order to discredit the idea of state-funded public services. And they have simultaneously opened the NHS up to the bloodsucking buzzards from the private health care corporations. Much of the money that goes into the NHS ends up in the bulging pockets of the bankers though scams like the Private Finance Initiative (PFI). Much of it is also syphoned off via high charges for medicines imposed by the drug corporations.
The Conservatives and New Labour both want to turn the clock back to the pre-1948 system--the system that still exists today in the US. The NHS staff are fighting this all the way.
Health care not warfare!

Disabled pensioner beaten with brick by "Asian" gang
A DISABLED pensioner was battered unconscious with a brick after he went to confront a gang of stone-throwing teenagers.
Ray Mills, aged 73, took on the 10-strong crowd outside his Birmingham home and was knocked to the floor by one of them.
The retired welder, who walks on crutches, is waiting for tests on his eye to see whether his sight has been damaged and has undergone brain scans in hospital.
As he recovered at his Stechford Road home today, he condemned the thugs and said: "I'm in terrible pain."
He hoped that the shocking pictures of his injuries would strike the conscience of the hooligans -- understood to include both boys and girls -- and result in them contacting police.

BBC news -sick thug attacks & blinds pensioner but goes free
A man who left a 96-year-old war veteran blind in one eye after attacking him on a packed tram has been given a three-year supervision order.
Stephen Gordon, 44, launched his unprovoked attack on Shah Chaudury in Croydon, south London, in December. Gordon, from Croydon, was found guilty of grievous bodily harm after the attack was caught on CCTV, Croydon Crown Court heard.
"The blow to the victim's head caused serious injury, which has resulted in the victim losing sight in one eye," said Det Sgt Darren Stenning. "And unfortunately since this assault, the victim's health has deteriorated and he now resides in a care home."
The attack took place on a tram travelling between Sandilands and East Croydon on December 14 last year. Gordon had tried to push past the victim, who was standing in the aisle leaning on his walking sticks. As he squeezed under the pensioner's arms his hat was knocked off and he
swore at the man and punched him in the face.
Police said two school children who were on the tram chased Gordon. They later gave evidence against him.
And yes justice has gone out the window! Hopefully somebody will give this smelly scumbag a good hiding when hes a pensioner too, or anytime hehe. Form an orderly queue!!
