False Fire: staged self-immolation at Tiananmen(1/2)
On January 23, 2001, it was reported that five people set themselves on fire in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, China.
The state-run Xinhua news agency reported the incident with unusual speed, claiming that the immolators were practitioners of the Falun Gong spiritual practice.
Yet evidence shows that this incident was staged, a ploy used to turn public opinion against Falun Gong already persecuted for their beliefs.
NGO』s (non-governmental organizations) have found gaping holes in the cover story propagated by Xinhua. They performed frame-by-frame analysis of the official video footage aired repeatedly on TV shortly after the incident, and examined inconsistencies in verbal claims and coverage made by official media and the communist party.
The International Education Development testified at the UN in Geneva as long ago as 2001 that 「we have obtained a video of that incident that in our view proves that this event was staged by the government.」

Bravo Putin!! Spot on!! US may have staged Georgian conflict - Putin - 1-2
In an interview with CNN Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has said the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict may have been staged to secure a victory for one of the presidential candidates in the U.S. He says preliminary reports show that U.S. citizens may have been present in the combat zone.
"We have serious reasons to believe that American citizens were right at the heart of the military action. This would have implications for American domestic policy. If this is confirmed, we will have grounds to suspect that somebody in the U.S. has created this conflict to aggravate the situation and create a competitive advantage for one of the presidential candidates".
Russia's Prime Minister also commented on the media coverage of the recent events.
"As far as the perception of these events by the general public goes, it depends not only on politicians, but also on how artful they are in controlling the mass media. And our American colleagues do this much better than we do and there's a lot we can learn from them".
Putin stressed that Russia did not attack and cannot be portrayed as an aggressor.
"We didn't attack anyone, we were attacked and therefore we need guarantees that we won't be attacked again, and that our citizens won't be killed. They are trying to present us as aggressors".
The Prime Minister has given a detailed chronology of the events between August 7 and 10.
"On 7 August, at 14:42, the Georgian peacekeepers left the headquarters of the peacekeeping forces under the pretext that they'd received orders from their commanders to leave their posts, and they never returned.
One hour later, heavy artillery shelling began.
At 22:35 a massive bombardment of Tsklhinval started. At 22:50 the transfer of Georgian ground troops started to the combat area. At the same time Georgian field hospitals were set up.
And at 23:30 the Brigadeer General commanding the Georgian peacekeeping forces announced that Georgia has declared a war against South Ossetia. They announced this publicly, looking straight into the TV cameras.
At that point we tried to contact the Georgian leadership, but everyone refused to talk to us.
At 12:45 AM on the 8th of August the Georgian commander repeated his statement. So who attacked whom?"
The former Russian president reiterated that the country has 'no intention of attacking anyone, or of fighting a war with anyone'.
"For eight years while I was President I often heard one and the same question -- what place does Russia think it should occupy in the world? We are a peace-loving state and want to co-operate with all our neighbours and other states. But if someone thinks they can just come in and kill us, and that our place is in the cemetery, these people should think of the consequences of such policies".

Seconds after Senator Obama steps away from the Western Wall in Jerusalem...
I am a freelance photographer/videographer currently living in Jerusalem. I have exclusive, high quality, close up footage of the moments following Senator Obama's placement of the now published note in the Western Wall.
Seconds after Obama left the stones, some of his entourage stepped up to the wall (seen dressed in suits) while young men began gathering notes in their hands in what appeared to be the search for Obama's freshly placed personal note. He is joined by others who unwrap notes and read them. I know this video is potentially a great asset to you in the continuing coverage of this story.

One minute forty of raw footage with sound, including the men walking up to the wall as camera follows, hands and people reaching and taking notes from different angles, and one person walking away from the wall with a note that he unwraps as he tries to aggressively block the camera lens.

The Olympic Games have drawn to a close at a glittering closing ceremony inside Beijing's Bird's Nest Stadium. Mayor Boris Johnson has received the Olympic flag to signal the start of London's reign as Olympic host city and spark wild celebrations in the capital.
An eight-minute handover presentation, featuring a red double-decker bus, footballer David Beckham and musicians Jimmy Page and Leona Lewis followed.
An estimated 40,000 people celebrated the handover at a party in London.
Johnson was handed the flag by IOC President, Jacques Rogge, in front of a 91,000 people at the Bird's Nest.
The Mayor waved the flag four times, as directed, before handing it to an usher.
He will bring the flag back to London on Tuesday and fly it outside City Hall alongside the Paralympic flag when those Games have concluded in September.
He will also display the flag at a major celebration in Beijing tonight for athletes, organisers, senior politicians including Prime Minister Gordon Brown, spectators and the media.
Spectacular fireworks kicked off the proceedings, while a beautifully choreographed drumming and dancing display recalled the opening ceremony.
It was a more celebratory affair, as exuberant athletes, dancers and musicians got into the party spirit. The Olympic flag was handed to London mayor Boris Johnson, with organisers briefly showcasing the 2012 Games. The countdown to 2012 has started, and organisers will know they have a great deal to live up to with China staging one of the best organised Games in history and staging some of the most memorable opening and closing ceremonies ever seen."The next Summer Games return to a country which I frequently boast has either invented or codified just about every major world sport. It will also feature British Olympians including Dame Mary Peters, Roger Black, Sally Gunnell and Sharron Davies. The International Olympic Committee awarded the Games of the 30th Olympiad to London on 6 July, 2005. London won a two-way fight with Paris by 54 votes to 50 at the IOC meeting in Singapore, after bids from Moscow, New York and Madrid were eliminated. Mayor Johnson has told the BBC he is "absolutely determined" the 2012 Olympics will cost less than the current £9.3bn budget. London will become the first city to stage the Olympics for a third time in 2012. On both previous occasions the capital has staged the Games at short notice - Rome pulled out of hosting the 1908 Olympics following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 1906.
