Tell Congress: Stop Big Media
http://stopbigmedia.com
Kevin Martin, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, has been keeping a secret from the American people. He wants to push through plans to remove decades-old media ownership protections. And he's trying to do it without public scrutiny.
Senators Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) and Trent Lott (R-Miss.) have introduced groundbreaking bipartisan legislation that would hold the FCC accountable and put the people ahead of Big Media.
Petitions from the public — millions of them — stopped media consolidation in 2003. Sign the petition and tell everyone you know:

Michael Copps: Why Minority Media Ownership Matters
http://stopbigmedia.com
CSPAN2 11/05/2007
FCC Commissioner Michael Copps
"Minority ownership right now is not reflecting the state of minorities in the United States of America. I think it's one of the serious problems we have recently. When you have a country that is one-third minority and then you stop to realize that people of color own 3.26% of all full-power commercial television stations, something seems to be just a little bit out of whack. And when we go around this country of ours with hearings, minorities getting up and complaining about we're so stereotyped when we're on the media.... What about all the positive contributions in the African American and Latino communities? What about the contributions they are making to our country? They complain our issues are not covered, and it gets back in the final analysis to ownership. Ownership does make a difference. And until we do something about the deplorable state of minority and female ownership, we're going to be disserving, I think, this great diverse country of ours."

Overwhelming Public Opposition to FCC/U.S.Media: Part 1 of 2
FCC Commissioner's Consolidation of American Media Defies Overwhelming Public Opposition: Part 1 of 2
In a 3-2 vote, the commissioners of the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) ruled to allow further media consolidation, defying overwhelming public opposition.
This means that one big media company can own all the newspapers, radio and TV stations in one community, controlling all the news, media, entertainment and it's content.
Hearings were held in different regions with short notice. The one in Seattle on November 9th, 2007, was set up with only 5 days notice.
Still, over 1000 people attended. Over 275 people signed up for public testimony, which lasted past 1 am.
From StopBigMedia.com:
http://www.stopbigmedia.com
"The FCC approved new rules that will unleash a flood of media consolidation across America. The new rules will further consolidate local media markets -- taking away independent voices in cities already woefully short on local news and investigative journalism.
Congress has the power to throw out these rules -- and if hundreds of thousands of people demand it, they'll have to listen."

Why The News Media Lies - And How We Can Stop It
"The only security of all is in a free press. The force of public opinion cannot be resisted when permitted freely to be expressed. The agitation it produces must be submitted to. It is necessary, to keep the waters pure."
~Thomas Jefferson

Go to machbar's website for a crucial film you need to see called "The Corporation" which also has all the information about the Florida reporters and why they were fired:

USA Today excludes Ron Paul
We are currently being misled by Big Media in a concerted effort to manipulate the public into a pro-war agenda. Voices of dissent are being systematically removed from the debate.
