Octobre: Chant d'automne - Tchaikovsky
Following my Grade 6 exam a couple of weeks ago I couldn't wait to get started on some new pieces :-)
My first choice for Grade 7 List B 2007-2008 was going to be the alternative piece of Chopin's Mazurka in B flat but as yet I've not had chance to buy the music so I thought I'd have a try at this one instead. Apologies for my mistakes; especially left hand from 1:25 - 1:55 which I've not quite mastered yet.

Another Grade 6 Exam Piece (2007-08) but one which I don't plan on using (I think I'm going to stick with the Prelude in C Sharp Minor by Stephen Heller)

Beethoven - Larghetto maestoso - Allegro assai
I've been struggling with a piece from section A Grade 6 2007/08. This was my first choice - sorry, first 2 pages only & it ends badly! I've now switched to Sonata in F by Casanovas because I don't think I'll perfect this is time for my exam.
Thought I'd still post this messy attempt though as there aren't many versions out there yet & I personally still like to hear other peoples versions, even when they're still in the practice stage! :-)

Rumba Toccata - Paul Harvey
*** EXAM UPDATE ***
I was convinced my performance was so bad that I wouldn't even get a merit but I actually managed a distinction :-)
I got 28 marks on this piece. Examiners comments "There was plenty of stability in your rhythm, articulation & choice of tempo. There was potential for yet more tonal subtley but this was an engaging performance".

Prelude in C Sharp Minor - Stephen Heller
*** EXAM UPDATE ***
I was convinced my performance was so bad (my pedalling was appalling) that I wouldn't even get a merit but I actually managed a distinction :-)
I got 26 on this. Examiners comments were "Again, balance was a strength & the rhythmic momentum was captured at this well chosen tempo. Some of the L.H. work could have been delivered with greater clarity & you slightly over-used the pedal in places but much was accurate & stylistic"

Mazurka in B Flat Op. 7 No. 1 - Chopin
Chopin v. Tchaikovsky ??
I finally got hold of this piece & have posted a taste (repeats omitted) in the hope that you can help me decide which piece to progress with for my next exam, Chopin or Tchaikovsky (as they are both from List B). I enjoy both pieces and they each offer different challenges for me, but today I'm being particularly indecisive and simply can't make up my mind. Advice / suggestions / comments all welcome :-)
