Robotic Liberation by PWP (VIC-20)
Are machines going to take over the world? A "music video" completely performed by an unexpanded Commodore VIC-20 and a 1541 disk drive. Note that there are only 5120 bytes and 1024 nybbles of RAM available, and the total disk size of the demo is a mere 16 KB. No one had ever pushed VIC-20 programming this far before the new millennium.
And don't forget: even the original Terminator was based on the 6502 microprocessor!

Lost to Time: VIC-20
The VIC-20 doesn't get much love here on YouTube, so I've put together this video containing footage from a number of its games.
Despite being largely forgotten by the classic gaming community, Commodore's first budget-priced personal computer was a huge hit in the early 1980s... so much so that Commodore had great difficulty retiring the machine in 1985. Commodore wanted to shift its focus to the C64, but consumers weren't so eager to make the switch, embracing the low-priced VIC-20 and forcing Commodore to support the system for much longer than it had wanted.
The VIC-20's influence can still be felt in the computer and video game industries, even if the system itself doesn't ring too many nostalgic bells. Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux, cut his teeth on the VIC-20. Current Nintendo president Satoru Iwata started his career at HAL Laboratory, making games like Star Battle for the humble computer. And the most daring underground programmers are still making content for the VIC-20, including some downright bitchin' demos that push the system far beyond its perceived limits. Check out the Robotic Liberation videos on YouTube for proof of the VIC-20's true capabilities.
As a game machine, the VIC-20 sits somewhere between the Atari 2600 and ColecoVision in quality. It doesn't have hardware sprite capabilities, and the wonky graphics processor meant that games were either sharp but color-deprived (like the Spectrum ZX) or vibrant but extra chunky. Despite these handicaps, some of the system's games are really impressive for the time. Omega Race and Gorf in particular are far superior to the arcade conversions on the 2600 or ColecoVision, and even feel just a bit more accurate than the same games released for the more advanced C64.

1981 Commodore VIC 20 Close up of an 8 bit Milestone
Commodore VIC20 Close up, of the famouse 8 Bit Homecomputer. In deed one could say the C64 is nothing but a VIC20 in Rev. 3.x, and its true, take a close look back in the days. And this in fact is THE Computer that many of todays Computer-Geeks have had as their very first Computer at all. Good Memories included, 5KB of RAM, and 3.5KB for Basic, and it worked. (3.5 KB = 0.0000003 GB)

Won the demo compo of the Alternative Party 2003, later nominated for a scene.org award. Was followed by "Robotic Liberation" at Assembly 2003.
